Functional Support Analyst for one of our clients, an investment bank set in Montreal
Summary of the Role
The Functional Support Analyst is responsible for daily support and analysis of accounting issues during production phases. As required, the analyst will provide high-level functional support and assist with user setup. The analyst will be part of a team acting as the first point of contact (Level 1 and Level 2). The role includes receiving, recording, and understanding issues, fixing business logic problems, suggesting improvements, escalating unresolved issues to Level 3 vendor support, and then communicating the resolution to the requester. The analyst must be an expert in fund accounting activities, have a solid understanding of the NAV cycle, be able to perform in-depth analysis of figures at the accounting level (such as explaining NAV variations), and be familiar with classic financial products and derivatives.
Main Responsibilities
- Monitor and support day-to-day production activities.
- Diagnose and provide high-level functional support for accounting applications (Multifonds FA/VEM and Calculo).
- Analyze and resolve accounting and technical issues during production phases, raise change requests to the vendor, and ensure follow-up until patch delivery.
- Understand prerequisites for accounting migrations and specific accounting events such as mergers, share class splits, or currency changes.
- Contribute to maintaining a stable BAU environment to deliver NAV on time and meet deadlines.
- Adopt a flexible approach to working hours to meet team demands and be willing to work different shifts if required.
- Provide guidance, instruction, and direction to the team and help them create and maintain shared team values.
- Test new Multifonds functionalities.
- Ensure global communication between APS and development teams.
- Add value by suggesting efficient workarounds in BAU (Business As Usual).
- Avoid recurring incidents.
- Closely monitor dashboards.
- Ensure clear communication, reporting, and escalation when necessary.
- Participate in various fund migration activities, internal testing meetings, and follow-up calls with external service providers.
Fund Accounting Expertise
The fund accounting process is highly sensitive and regulated by several industry standards. To work in this area, you need:
- Expertise in the business and a deep understanding of functional processes in general. This includes knowledge of financial instruments and Net Asset Value (NAV) calculation, which is a key metric for any mutual fund.
- Be an expert in fund accounting activities.
- Be familiar with different existing fund structures on the market (multi-class funds, pooling, segmented market structures, share class hedging concepts).
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on accounting applications such as Multifonds FA/VEM (Temenos software) to provide high-level functional support.
