About Us
St.Amant supports over 5,000 people in Manitoba with developmental disabilities, autism and acquired brain injury. We are a not-for-profit organization that offers a wide range of supports for adults, children and their families. Our over 2,000 staff follow a person-centered approach and adapt to the needs of each person and each family.
An eligibility list of qualified candidates will be established to fill upcoming Team Leader vacancies.
This Position is Term position.
Position Summary and Scope of Service
The Team Leader (TL) is responsible for the overall care and service provided to people within assigned worksites. The Team Leader ensures that services are provided in a ways that:
- optimizes dignity, self-determination, and attainment of personal outcomes;
- maximizes normal environmental and lifestyle features utilizing social role valorization concepts;
- supports people to obtain best possible health; and
- supports people to access education, training, and work opportunities
The Team Leader supervises direct support professionals within the assigned residences. The Team Leader develops and supports good team communication and collaborative working relationships by spending time in homes, making observations and providing feedback. Team Leaders need to understand the scope of each team members' potential contribution and assist each team member to achieve their full contribution. The Team Leader may be required to provide direct support in the case of urgent or emergency situations.
Qualifications
Educational:
- Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree in a relevant social science or human services field is preferred
- Certification in CPR and Emergency First Aid
- Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset
- Formal training in Personal Outcome Measures is an asset
- Successful Completion of Core Supervisory Training
Professional:
- Minimum of four years' experience providing services to people with disabilities in a community setting
- Previous experience as a manager in an interdisciplinary environment
- Previous experience in a unionized environment
- Knowledge of care, education and training of persons living with a developmental disability
- Knowledgeable of the history of services to people with disabilities and current trends, philosophies and practices concerning their care, education and lifestyles
- Knowledge of the structure, regulations, and legislation of Family Services, Child and Family Services, and Residential Care Licensing is an asset
- Knowledge of theory of Social Role Valorization and Personal Outcome Measures is an asset
- Previous experience managing a budget within a non-profit setting is an asset
- Must understand and support the concept of interdisciplinary teamwork
- Ability to plan and implement individual support plans

Duties include:
- Identifies and matches staff and people supported to help them explore relationships and community activities (This is known as an "exploring pair")
- Maintains and reviews records related to Personal Outcome Measures for people we support, assessing where engagement could be enhanced
- Provides feedback to employees in their roles in an exploring pair, and in supporting Personal Outcome Measures
- Provides direction to direct support professionals within assigned residences/service areas to ensure services provided are of the highest quality and are directly related to the individual's assessment of their personal outcomes
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with people supported and their families, volunteers, St.Amant staff and external collaterals
- Ensures each person's personal outcomes, needs and preferences are reviewed by an interdisciplinary team regularly, and the process and outcomes are documented and shared with all team members
- Ensures that the people we support are supported in accordance within the principles of the Vulnerable Persons Act, reflecting the right of all people to make their own decisions and have help, where necessary, in a manner that respects their independence, privacy and dignity
- Responsible for chairing person-centered planning meetings
- Assists Coordinator to ensure coordination and integration of services
- Provides recommendations to the Coordinator regarding the appropriate complement of staff
- Collaborates with Family Services and/or Child and Family Services to ensure person's needs are identified and addressed, and is responsible for following up on needs, steps and goals of each person
- Provides direction and leadership to direct support staff in crisis situations, identifies, assesses and intervenes as necessary to manage crisis situations
- Promotes awareness of people's rights and responsibilities in a least restrictive support model
