Summary
Perform a variety of routine and complex tasks related to the installation, servicing, and calibration of therapeutic, diagnostic, or life-sustaining biomedical instruments.
Key Responsibilities- Perform repairs and calibration services on a wide range of patient care and assistive equipment.
- Perform maintenance and electrical safety inspections on a variety of patient care and support equipment in accordance with established standards.
- Experience with anesthesiology and ventilators is desirable.
- Manage all assigned materials and schedules.
- Ensure proper operation and calibration of test equipment within established intervals.
- Respond promptly to clinical service calls to assess and resolve user complaints or concerns.
- Research and initiate orders for spare parts while respecting established budget parameters.
- Provide informal training to equipment users and company personnel as required or when circumstances necessitate it.
- Make recommendations to the service manager regarding service strategies for the equipment; keep the supervisor informed of activities, needs, and issues.
- Maintain an orderly and functional work environment.
- Provide emergency on-call support as needed.
- Document all significant actions related to equipment in accordance with departmental practices.
- Collaborate with other technical staff during meetings to ensure they are informed of technical updates and/or device issues.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the company's mission and values.
- Perform any other assigned tasks necessary for the proper functioning of the account and business operations.
- Perform all duties related to this position as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Electronics experience, typically acquired through a two-year college program in electronics or biomedical equipment technology, or equivalent work experience, to become familiar with biomedical devices commonly used in healthcare settings.
- Ideally, five years of related experience to develop skills in applying biomedical and electronic principles.
- Associate degree in biomedical engineering technology or equivalent work experience.
- Ability to obtain Biomedical Equipment Technician certification from the International Certification Commission.
- Ability to travel regularly, up to two weeks at a time. Must maintain a valid driver's license, passport, and any other required travel documents.
- Knowledge of electronic circuits.
- Knowledge of electronic troubleshooting, particularly with anesthesiology and ventilator equipment.
- Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and illustrated part drawings of biomedical instruments.
- Ability to take on-call duty as needed.
- Ability to work in a sterile environment if required.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to maintain clean and accurate records.
- Working knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology.
- Working knowledge of email, database management, spreadsheet, and word-processing applications.
