Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a collaborative and highly talented Project Engineer for a full-time position that can be based  in one of our Greater Toronto Area offices (Markham or Mississauga). The candidate for this position will have the opportunity to be the lead engineer working on linear infrastructure as it relates to drinking water and water treatment facilities works for medium to very large size municipal drinking water and wastewater projects and related infrastructure including planning and feasibility to design and construction.

The qualified candidate will have extensive knowledge, experience and successful track record in delivering water and wastewater conveyance infrastructure projects and some experience in working on conveyance elements for facilities projects. They will be expected to be self-led to maintain schedule and budget, deliver quality designs compliant with local standards, implement safety by design and communicate with stakeholders effectively and obtain permits as needed. This will be a growth opportunity for the successful candidate where they will also lead / mentor less experienced staff as their delegates to their tasks and deliverables.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Maintain technical knowledge of water and wastewater conveyance infrastructure in a municipal environment.
  • Work successfully within a team environment and communicate effectively with other project team members and clients.
  • Mentor and lead less experienced EITs as delegates to their work.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to build a strong relationship of trust and understanding.
  • Work closely with the project manager and other discipline engineers as a key player in leading the design delivery.
  • Regular reporting on budget, schedule and quality performance for the project.
  • Complete designs within local standards, including making informed decisions on which standard to follow where there are conflicts and communicate and document the decision, engaging stakeholders as required.
  • Complete and oversee the completion of technical reports, calculations, and undertake design decisions.
  • Prepare technical specifications, tender documents, and review design drawings.
  • Assist in conducting technical quality reviews of deliverables.
  • Liaison with the disciplines to coordinate design efforts.
  • Conduct periodic site visits during design and construction.
  • Provide continuity through the complete project, from design through construction.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree +4 years of related experience in design and construction of municipal water and wastewater projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Registered as a P.Eng in the province of ON (or ability to register within 6 months)

 Preferred Qualifications :

  • 8+ years of related experience with conveyance work associated with drinking water and water treatment facilities.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Technical experience and/or project management on projects in the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills as well as effective report writing.
