Mini Melts is seeking a hands-on and highly organized Hybrid Plant Manager / QA & Food Safety Supervisor to oversee daily production, food safety systems, and quality operations at our Airdrie frozen novelty manufacturing facility.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a small-plant environment, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and is committed to maintaining high standards of product quality, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.

Mini Melts is a fast-growing novelty ice cream brand producing flash-frozen ice cream and sorbet products for amusement parks, retailers, family entertainment centres, and distribution partners across Canada. Our Airdrie production facility supports national expansion and operates with a dedicated team of approximately 10 employees.
Position Overview
The Hybrid Plant Manager / QA & Food Safety Supervisor is responsible for leading production operations while ensuring compliance with Mini Melts' Quality Assurance and food safety standards, including SFCR Preventive Control Plans (PCP). This role oversees production staff, maintains documentation, interacts with CFIA, manages lab testing, orders supplies, and ensures the facility is operating safely and efficiently.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong communication, technical knowledge, and the ability to drive quality and performance across the plant.
Key Responsibilities
Plant & Production Management
Lead, schedule, and supervise a team of ~10 production staff.
- Oversee daily production activities, including batch processes and throughput targets.
- Maintain an efficient workflow while ensuring product quality and consistency.
- Manage staffing levels, breaks, shift priorities, and coverage.
Conduct troubleshooting and support equipment operation (minor adjustments).
Food Safety & QA Oversight
Manage and maintain the SFCR Preventive Control Plan (PCP).
- Ensure compliance with HACCP, GMPs, sanitation verification, traceability, and recall readiness.
- Conduct environmental swabbing, batch testing, and in-house lab analysis as required.
- Oversee documentation, SOPs, deviation reports, and corrective actions.
- Prepare the plant for internal audits and CFIA inspections.
Serve as the primary contact for CFIA interactions and regulatory communication.
Inventory & Supply Chain Management
Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, packaging, chemicals, and production supplies.
- Forecast usage and place purchase orders to ensure uninterrupted production.
Verify incoming materials, COAs, and supplier compliance with Mini Melts standards.
Training & Staff Development
Train production staff on food safety, hygiene, SOPs, and equipment operation.
- Maintain training records and ensure staff competency for assigned tasks.
Promote a positive, safe, and productive work environment.
Continuous Improvement & General Operations
Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and quality.
- Support equipment maintenance scheduling and ensure safe equipment operation.
- Maintain a clean, organized production environment compliant with Alberta OHS.
- Assist with any other operational responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
- 3–7 years of experience in food manufacturing, QA, or plant supervision.
- Strong knowledge of SFCR, HACCP, GMPs, and food safety documentation.
- Hands-on experience with QA testing and micro/environmental sampling.
- Demonstrated leadership ability in a small-plant environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to balance administrative duties with floor-level involvement.
- Proficient with basic computer systems and documentation.
Bonus Assets:
- Dairy or frozen food manufacturing experience
- Previous CFIA audit or inspection experience
- Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field
