Our Child Intervention Division is seeking dedicated, compassionate professionals to join our team as Child Intervention Practitioners. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assess safety and risk: Gather and analyze information to determine immediate concerns and develop safety plans with families and supports.
• Plan and collaborate: Facilitate family meetings, identify goals, and connect families to community resources and cultural supports.
• Manage cases: Engage children and youth in decision-making, monitor progress, and adjust plans to increase safety and positive outcomes.
• Legal and crisis response: Prepare court documents, attend hearings, and respond to urgent situations, including participation in on-call rotations
• Support lifelong connections: Promote family, cultural, and spiritual ties, implement cultural plans, and ensure educational success.
• Complete documentation: Maintain accurate records in case management systems and ensure compliance with Child Intervention standards and CYFEA policies.

Successful candidates are lifelong learners who embrace innovative approaches and demonstrate cultural awareness, particularly regarding Indigenous communities and the impact of colonization. You'll bring a strong understanding of Signs of Safety and the Child Intervention Practice Framework principles, along with deep knowledge of community resources and strategies to support diverse populations.

Children and Family Services serves communities in 5 regions across the province.

North Region: Includes Edson, Hinton, Whitecourt, Athabasca, Westlock, Barrhead, Lac La Biche, St. Paul, Vegreville, Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Slave Lake, Grande Prairie, Peace River, High Prairie, High Level, and Fort McMurray, as well as Metis Settlements.

Edmonton Region: Includes Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, Spruce Grove, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Stony Plain, Leduc, Paul First Nation, Alexis Nakoda Sioux First Nation, Enoch First Nation, and Alexander First Nation. Services are also provided to Metis Settlement affiliated families who reside in the Edmonton Region.

Central Region: Includes Lloydminster, Wainwright, Camrose, Wetaskiwin, Drayton Valley, Rocky Mountain House, Red Deer, Stettler, Drumheller, and Olds.

Calgary Region: Includes Calgary, High River, and Airdrie. Services are also provided to families who reside in the Strathmore area.

South Region: Includes Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Taber, Brooks, and Fort MacLeod.

Bachelor of Social Work or Social Work Diploma with some related experience.

Equivalency:

• Master of Social Work (no experience required); or
• Related university degree (BA Child Studies/Child & Youth Care, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc. Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development, Bachelor of Indigenous Studies) and 2 years related experience; or
• Related diploma (Addictions/Counseling, Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Criminal Justice) and 3 years related experience; or
• Related certificate and 4 years related experience.

Please Note: Education must be from an accredited post-secondary institution.

Related Experience Includes: Case management and planning in a child intervention setting; crisis intervention and protection work; supporting foster care, kinship care, permanency support programs; family preservation and family support; counseling youth and families; knowledge of community connections and socially inclusive environments; as well as strong experience and understanding of Indigenous peoples, various cultures, community connections, and socially inclusive environments.

Assets & Preferences:

• Preference will be given to those who have at least one year experience (current or prior) within Child Intervention Services, Children and Family Services.
• Preference will be given to candidates who are currently delegated under CYFEA or have previously held delegation as a Child Intervention Practitioner in Alberta.
• Experience working for a Delegated First Nation Agency (DFNA).
• Completed a practicum with Children and Family Services.

Hours of Work:

• Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week (full-time). Some program areas may require shift work, and additional hours may be necessary to meet operational or business needs.

Travel and Vehicle Requirements:

• Travel will be required in this role; therefore, final candidates will be asked to provide a current 5-year Commercial Driver's Abstract. Employees must hold a valid Class 5 Driver's License and have access to a reliable vehicle, as personal vehicles may be required when government fleet vehicles are unavailable. Appropriate insurance coverage is required.

Relocation:

• If a new employee is required to relocate to begin employment with the Government of Alberta, a relocation allowance may be requested. Approval is subject to operational requirements, budget considerations, and the specifics of the relocation.

Other Information:

• The classification is under review due to collective agreement updates. Information will be shared when available.
