Summary
The current opportunity is a permanent, full-time Solar Sales Advisor role for predominantly commercial installations around Guelph and the surrounding areas. As a Solar Advisor for commercial sales, you'll help businesses reduce energy expenses while transitioning to clean renewable energy. You'll build trusted relationships with commercial clients, guiding them through the solar journey from initial conversation to project startup and supporting conversations through to project completion. You'll be responsible for identifying new potential clients, developing tailored proposals, and collaborating closely with other departments to ensure client satisfaction. Success in this role means driving growth while living our core values, and helping our clients achieve energy independence with confidence and trust.
Responsibilities
- Lead Generation & Prospecting:
Identify, qualify, and pursue solar opportunities through networking, referrals, partnerships, and direct outreach, such as cold calling and attending industry events. Most of your sales opportunities will be created from your own efforts. This is an outside sales role. Some leads and a cold call list will be provided to you, but this will likely be the minority.
- Consultative Sales Approach:
Engage with business owners and decision-makers to assess energy needs, financial goals, and site feasibility, providing customized solar solutions that align with client objectives.
- Proposal Development:
Prepare and present accurate, compelling proposals including financial analyses and ROI calculations using company tools and templates.
- Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, contractors, and industry partners to encourage repeat business and referrals.
- Follow-up & Conversion:
Ensure timely and consistent follow-up on all leads and opportunities to maximize conversion rates and achieve or exceed sales targets.
- Collaboration:
Liaise with the engineering, project management, and installation teams to ensure seamless project handoff and continue to handle customer communication through the project execution.
- Reporting & CRM Management:
Maintain accurate records of all sales activities, opportunities, and customer interactions within the company's CRM system.
- Professional Representation:
Represent the company at meetings, trade shows, and community events with professionalism, enthusiasm, and integrity.
- Customer Satisfaction:
Ensure client expectations are met or exceeded throughout the sales and installation process, securing 5-star reviews and referrals post-project completion.
- Safety & Compliance:
Demonstrate a strong commitment to health and safety by adhering to company policies and promoting safe work practices in all interactions.
Skills & key competencies
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent emotional intelligence, flexibility, and possess a growth mindset.
Experience:
2+ years of sales experience, preferably in solar, renewable energy, or other technical B2B industries.
Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.
Technical Knowledge:
- Ability to understand and relay technical and financial information into clear, value-driven conversations with clients.
Sales & Communication Skills:
Excellent listening, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Comfortable leading client meetings and presenting proposals both virtually and in person.
Customer-Focused Mindset:
Passionate about helping clients adopt sustainable solutions.
Skilled at building trust and long-term relationships with diverse clients and stakeholders.
Organization & Time Management:
Highly self-motivated, organized, and able to identify, prioritize and manage multiple prospects simultaneously.
Strong follow-up habits and attention to detail.
Collaboration & Integrity:
Works effectively with cross-functional teams and demonstrates company core values.
Practices high-trust behaviours such as talking straight, clarifying expectations, and delivering results.
Education & Tools:
Post-secondary education in business, marketing, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
