Intermediate Database Administrator

Position Overview

The Senior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing complex Oracle database environments to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and data integrity. The successful candidate will administer databases across multiple environments, perform migrations, monitor performance, and support enterprise-level applications using Oracle 12c/19c technologies.

This position requires extensive experience in Oracle database administration, optimization, and troubleshooting, along with proven knowledge of enterprise-level data management practices within hybrid and on-premises environments.

Key Responsibilities

Database Design, Installation & Configuration (50%)

• Plan, design, and deploy Oracle 12c/19c RAC databases and Dataguard environments.
• Install, configure, and maintain Oracle 12c/19c environments, including multi-tenant architecture.
• Design and implement Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) 12c for alerting, monitoring, and reporting.
• Perform capacity planning, configuration management, and system optimization.

Database Operations & Administration (30%)

• Administer daily database operations, including backup and recovery using RMAN.
• Configure and manage Oracle Unified Auditing and security controls (ASO/TDE).
• Manage data replication, partitioning, compression, and high-availability solutions.
• Conduct database performance tuning and optimization (minimum 5–7 years experience).

Monitoring, Maintenance & Troubleshooting (20%)

• Perform ongoing monitoring and tuning of databases for optimal performance.
• Support incident, change, and configuration management processes.
• Develop and enforce database security, backup, and recovery policies.
• Manage Oracle Dataguard physical/logical configurations and administration.

Mandatory Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on experience as an Oracle DBA in large enterprise environments.
• Proven experience with Oracle 12c and 19c in multi-tenant architecture.
• Strong experience with Oracle Dataguard (physical/logical configuration and administration).
• Expertise with RMAN backup and restore operations.
• Hands-on experience with data encryption using ASO/TDE.
• Experience with UNIX operating systems.
• Proficiency in query languages, information retrieval packages, and one or more programming languages.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a proven record of teamwork and meeting deadlines.
• Experience in Incident, Change, and Configuration Management procedures.

Desirable Skills

• Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) designation.
• Experience with Oracle Partitioning, Oracle Advanced Compression, and Oracle GoldenGate.
• Experience with DB2 technologies and data conversion from DB2 to Oracle.
• Experience building Oracle RAC on Solaris servers or engineered Oracle solutions.
• Familiarity with distributed data systems, middleware, and gateway technologies.
• Knowledge of Ontario Public Service (OPS) infrastructure hosting policies and ITSM processes.
• Awareness of emerging IT trends, cybersecurity vulnerability management, and distributed data architectures.
• Experience with Oracle DB web search services, data integration, and evaluation.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 12 months

Pay: From $40.00 per hour
