POSITION OVERVIEW:

One (1) casual Occupational Health Nurse opportunity is available at Groves Memorial Community Hospital.

The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) works collaboratively with members of the Human Resources team and Infection Prevention and Control team to support individual employees and the organization in the delivery of a safe and healthy work environment.

The Occupational Health Nurse will be responsible to deliver employee health and safety programs including but not limited to:

  • Provides pre-employment medical assessments based on the Public Hospitals Act and OHA/OMA guidelines.
  • Serve as a resource to all departments related to Employee Health & Safety inquiries. Support safety and accident prevention specific to organizational hazards
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of health and communicable disease surveillance programs for regulated, controlled substances, blood and body fluid and other biological exposures. Communicable diseases programs and protocols include chicken pox, influenza, febrile respiratory illness (FRI), and other pandemic or epidemic diseases.
  • Managing and delivering employee health and wellness services to employees ensuring compliance with legislation and applicable acts
  • Oversight and administration of Immunization programs
  • Provide appropriate and effective first-aid and counseling to employees, as appropriate.

  • Make referrals to appropriate resources (EAP, Occupational Health Physician, Disability Management Specialists, therapists)

  • Commitment to ethical conduct & strict adherence to confidentiality

Qualifications:

  • Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Baccalaureate Degree, preferred in health related or science discipline
  • Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing or related equivalent experience
  • Acute care hospital experience or equivalent experience in the community
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act, Human Rights, WHMIS and WSIB legislation, required
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License, Insurance & reliable transportation

Hours of work:

  • 37.5 hours per week (5 days per week)
  • Flexible hours, majority of hours will be business hours Monday to Friday
  • Travel amongst WHCA sites may be required
  • Occasional attendance at meetings/hospital events during non-business hours may be required

Salary: $ $59.45 per hour

Union: Ontario Nurses' Association
