Purchasing Director
The Purchasing Director is a strategic and operational leadership role responsible for overseeing all company-wide procurement and buying activities across all domains of our integrator business. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Purchasing, this role provides direction, governance, and hands-on leadership across all procurement functions, including strategic sourcing, all supplier negotiations, and operational procurement execution.
This position leads the Procurement Supervisor and their teams to ensure that sourcing strategies from head of purchasing, supplier relationships, and procurement operations deliver measurable business value. The Purchasing Director is responsible to execute the Purchasing strategy at every stage of the business, from pre-sales engagement and competitive bid support to post-award cost optimization, contract negotiation, and supplier performance management.
With a focus on total cost of ownership, profitability, and operational efficiency, the Purchasing Director drives cost savings, is responsible for supplier relationships, and mitigates supply chain risk. The role ensures seamless integration of purchasing processes with Sales, Operations, Project Management, and Finance to support timely project delivery, margin improvement, and sustained competitive advantage.
As a senior leader, this position also serves as a mentor and coach to the procurement organization, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across all procurement activities
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)
- National Procurement Strategy: Implement and manage a centralized, national procurement strategy that optimizes total cost of ownership, reduces supply chain risk, and supports the rapid scaling of integration projects across all regions.
- Sourcing & Negotiation: Lead all negotiations with suppliers, covering direct, indirect and subcontractor spend. Establish and maintain favorable framework agreement pricing and terms.
- Develop and implement a Procurement Business Partner team, providing 1st layer negotiation support for sales, service, and operations.
- Supplier Relationship Management : Cultivate collaborative, long-term relationships with suppliers. Work with Purchasing Administration Manager and product managment to conduct quarterly business reviews (QBRs) to manage performance, compliance, and capacity planning. Collaborate with other BT regional product management and procurement leaders to establish global framework agreements where applicable and advantageous to the business.
- Risk Mitigation: Proactively monitor global and domestic supply chain disruptions and work with Purchasing Administration Manager to develop contingency planning (e.g., chip shortages, tariffs, logistics delays).
- Team Leadership & Development: Ensure that recruitment, training, and mentoring programs are in place for the procurement team (including buyers and purchasing analysts). Collaborate with Purchasing leaders to establish KPIs and metrics to drive high performance and process adherence (e.g., Purchase Price Variance, On-Time Delivery).
- Process: Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the source-to-pay process.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as the procurement lead for Sales, Operations, and Project Management. Provide guidance on material cost forecasts, contract negotiation, and procurement strategies to the VP of Purchasing. Work with Purchasing managers to ensure relevant and critical information is quickly and effectively communicated to sales and operational teams, such as discount or cost changes, new suppliers or relationship changes, supply chain risks, and updated market intelligence.
What You'll Bring (Qualifications)
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management.
- At least 5 years of direct supervisory or management experience leading a purchasing team
- Required: Significant experience within a project-based industry (e.g., systems integration, low-voltage construction, manufacturing, or large-scale installation services).
- Proven history of negotiating multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts and achieving measurable cost savings.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of security integration technology and components (e.g., VMS/NVR platforms, Access Control hardware, IP networking, and server infrastructure).
- Proficiency with advanced ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Microsoft D365).
- Certifications: Professional certification such as Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), or a related professional credential is highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Procurement in a Security System Integrator or similar business vertical
