ABOUT THE ROLEThe Fort McKay First Nation is seeking a motivated and multitasked oriented individual who is flexible and works well in a team environment to fill the full-time permanent position of Health Care Aide. Reporting directly to the Riverside Care Facility Nursing Supervisor, the Health Care Aide will be responsible for providing personal care and companionship for seniors, persons with disabilities and convalescent clients. This position is based in Fort McKay, AB. The shift rotation will be 7 days on, 7 days off.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Provide daily living support and comfort to patients and clients by assisting with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and other personal hygiene activities, as well as feeding, mobility and exercise as needed.Answer call signals; supply and empty bed pans; serve meal trays, feed or assist in feeding of patients and assist patients with menu selection; weigh, lift, turn, and position patients; shave patients prior to operations.Supervise patients' exercise routines, set up and provide leisure activities for patients, accompany patients on outside recreational activities.Take patients' blood pressure, temperature and pulse; report or record fluid intake and output; observe or monitor patients' status and document patient care on charts; administer first aid in emergency situations.Collect specimens such as urine, faeces or sputum; administer suppositories, colonic irrigations and enemas and perform other procedures as directed and supervised by nursing and hospital staff.May perform routine health-related duties such as changing non-sterile dressings upon supervision from an LPN.Assist with the administration of medications and collecting specimens under the general direction of the LPN.Follow Health and Safety principles in delivering care to residents and work effectively and cooperatively with family members.Maintain cleanliness and sanitary needs of space.Maintain required records, documentation, and statistics, including completion of daily records and monthly statistics and reporting.Perform routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes, making beds and other related duties.Transport patients by wheelchair or stretcher for treatment or surgery, and between care facilities.Communicate effectively with patients, patient family members and their team members.Provide dignified care, compassion, and support to patients.Report on their observations and communicate concerns to nurses and other licensed health care professionals.Carry messages, reports, requisitions and specimens between departments.Maintain inventory of supplies.Perform maintenance tasks such as assisting with the set-up and maintenance of traction equipment, cleaning or sterilizing equipment, maintaining and repairing equipment, and assembling, setting-up and operating job-related equipment.Adhere to confidentiality, security, and operational procedures.Perform other related duties as required.KEY REQUIREMENTSCompletion of Health Care Aide Certificate from an Accredited College/Program is requiredExperience in care of elderly, persons with disabilities, convalescent care, or in a related field is required.TDG and WHMIS certification requiredCurrent Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) is required.Completion of Indigenous awareness and sensitivity training is required.Privacy training is required.Experience working in an Indigenous community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is considered an asset.Valid class 5 Driver's License & Clean Driver's Abstract is requiredClean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector is requiredABOUT FORT MCKAYThe Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 400 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay — a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray.
