Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. The AGO Collection of more than 120,000 works of art ranges from cutting-edge contemporary art to significant works by Indigenous and Canadian artists and European masterpieces.

- Through a Canadian indigenous perspective, delivers a range of in- gallery and studio-based school programs for elementary and secondary school students that are educational, hands-on, engaging, innovative and fun. These programs emphasize process and product equally, encourage the development of critical thinking skills, and personal creativity. Ensures that all programs are responsive to student and teacher needs and meet the program outcomes and objectives as stated
- Integrates First Nations, Inuit and Metis perspectives in the design of program outlines for studio and gallery visits that meet guidelines set out by Manager, School Programs and Early Learning, conducts research and testing of program concepts and activities to engage elementary and secondary school students and their teachers.
- Outlines proper gallery behaviour and works with interns, teachers, and chaperones to reinforce these behaviours while in the galleries. Models best practices for volunteers and interns to ensure program delivery is responsive and meets program objectives.
- Participates in training for staff and volunteers as required and stays current with the AGO collection and programming as well as with new developments in art education and social learning theory.
- Works with the Managers, Curators and Production and Studio Coordinator to organize and maintain the materials, supplies, equipment and resources needed to support activities.
- Supports program evaluation as it informs the on-going development of programs.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
- Personal lived experience with First Nations, Metis and/or Inuit culture.
- Post-secondary studies in Education, Art Education, Fine Art or Art History combined with some studio experience and/or equivalent life and work experience.
- Demonstrated teaching experience (minimum 2 years) in a formal and/or informal learning environment involving children and youth.
- Sound knowledge of learning theories and teaching methodologies as well as various media, techniques and practices relevant to in-gallery and studio-based practices.
- Demonstrated teamwork skills and a desire to work as part of an instructional team comprised of staff, volunteers and interns.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to lifelong learning and excellent customer service.
- Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and self-reflective.
- Familiarity with the Ontario curriculum.
- Ability to speak French and/or a language other than English is an asset.
- Demonstrated computer competency skills (word, excel, email, etc.)
