Job Description

iPolitics is looking for a general news reporter to contribute to its coverage of Parliament and federal politics.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with solid knowledge of federal politics and Parliament, and experience writing impactful stories and developing sources. 

The reporter is tasked with regularly filing stories, writing e-newsletters, attending events, developing sources and liaising with the senior editorial team on the latest happenings on Parliament Hill. The ideal candidate must be located in Ottawa as it will require frequent attendance on Parliament Hill.  

Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief you will:

  • File news stories and features for a web-based platform;
  • File and disseminate e-newsletters on a regular basis;
  • Cover events including parliamentary debates and committee hearings, elections, and leadership races;
  • Participate in scrums, press conferences and various events on Parliament Hill and the surrounding area;
  • Develop sources within political circles that allow you to break original stories;
  • Use social media to build your audience and help disseminate stories.

What you bring:

  • Experience covering politics
  • Deep understanding of Canadian politics
  • Experience producing high-quality articles on political issues
  • Degree in Journalism, Communications, Political Sciences, or a related field is an asset
  • Must be available to work in Ottawa, ON on a hybrid-basis.
