Position Purpose

Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka'pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 40, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Youth Coordinator to lead and coordinate our ʔesknstwexʷ Department. The ideal candidate will engage our youth in a variety of cultural, educational, and recreational activities, fostering a deep appreciation for nłeʔképmx culture and language.

Primary Duties

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate youth programs and activities,
  • Facilitate youth participation in sports and activities by planning and implementing events,
  • Organize and oversee youth engagement in workshops and conferences,
  • Coordinate and implement youth participation in harvesting activities,
  • Facilitate youth involvement in hunting, fishing, and cultural camps,
  • Collaborate with community members and organizations to promote participation in activities,
  • Develop and implement strategies to involve youth in cultural and traditional practices,
  • Evaluate programs and gather feedback to enhance future offerings,
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all participants, and
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the nłeʔképmx Logistics Coordinator.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of nłeʔképmx culture and language is an asset,
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively and foster positive relationships with youth, families, and community members,
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion,
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with Indigenous heritage, language, and traditional practices,
  • Willingness to learn nłeʔkepmx cultural values and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity, and
  • Strong ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and manage time, with solid computer skills and proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office productivity software.

Experience and Requirements

  • Experience working with youth in a community setting, preferably in Indigenous environments,
  • Experience in program delivery is an asset,
  • Willingness to travel for work with a valid BC Class 5 driver's license and with access to a personal vehicle,
  • Willingness to complete and pass a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), and
  • Willingness to submit a Driver's Abstract with a score of 1,000 or less.

Work Environment

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm, with a 1-hour lunch, with regular flexibility required for events and meetings in evenings and weekends. On average, 35 hours per week,
  • Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
  • Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the CNA Office at 2025 Granite Ave. Merritt BC,
  • Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
  • Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
  • Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
  • Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
  • Personal and Professional Development: As part of total compensation, we supply full-time permanent employees with the means to advance their skills and education.
