Department: Operations/Field Services Reports To: Owner

Location: Various job sites in Ontario (e.g., Kingston, Brockville, and surrounding areas)

Employment Status: Full-time, Seasonal (depending on project demands)

Start Date: May 1, 2026

Position Summary:

The Regional Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing a team of painters on residential, commercial, and industrial painting projects. This position ensures that all work is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. The Regional Manager acts as the on-site point of contact, coordinating with clients, suppliers, and management to deliver exceptional results. Ideal candidates are experienced painters with strong supervisory skills, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to fostering a positive team environment. This role is critical in a growing painting company, supporting expansion into new markets like Brockville by managing crews efficiently and upholding company reputation for durable, aesthetically pleasing finishes. Success requires technical proficiency in painting techniques, problem-solving abilities, and adherence to environmental and health regulations, such as those from the Ontario Ministry of Labour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a crew of 2-3 painters, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and providing guidance to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality outcomes on projects ranging from interior/exterior residential repaints to large-scale commercial coatings.
  • Plan and schedule daily activities, including surface preparation (e.g., scraping, sanding, priming), painting application (using brushes, rollers, sprayers), and cleanup, while adapting to weather conditions or site-specific challenges.
  • Conduct site inspections to assess project scope, identify potential issues (e.g., surface defects, material needs), and develop work plans that align with client specifications and timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like respirators, harnesses, and gloves; conduct daily safety meetings and report incidents per OSHA-equivalent standards in Ontario.
  • Train and mentor junior painters on techniques such as cutting in with a brush, rolling, taping, color matching, faux finishes, and specialty coatings (e.g., epoxy or anti-graffiti), while evaluating performance and providing constructive feedback to improve skills and productivity.
  • Manage inventory of tools, materials, and equipment (e.g., ladders, scaffolding, paint sprayers), ordering supplies as needed and maintaining equipment to prevent downtime.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, addressing concerns, providing progress updates, and ensuring satisfaction through final walkthroughs and touch-ups.
  • Monitor crew attendance, punctuality, and conduct, enforcing company policies on professional appearance, language, and ethical behavior.
  • Prepare detailed reports on project status, labour hours, material usage, and any deviations from the plan, contributing to cost control and invoicing accuracy.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as estimating and procurement, to optimize project efficiency and support company goals like sustainable practices (e.g., using low-VOC paints).
  • Handle minor administrative tasks, including timekeeping, payroll input, and documentation for warranties or certifications.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, such as eco-friendly materials or advanced application methods, through workshops or certifications (e.g., WHMIS training).

Qualifications and Requirements: Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary certification in painting, construction management, or a related trade (e.g., from Ontario College of Trades) preferred.
  • Valid certifications in Working at Heights, WHMIS, and First Aid/CPR are mandatory; additional tickets like Scaffold Safety or Lead Paint Abatement are assets.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience as a professional painter, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role overseeing crews on diverse projects.
  • Proven track record in managing residential and commercial painting jobs, including surface prep, application, and finishing on materials like wood, metal, drywall, and concrete.
  • Familiarity with Ontario building codes, environmental regulations, and union guidelines if applicable.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate teams, resolve conflicts, and build a collaborative work culture.
  • Technical expertise in painting tools and techniques, including color theory, surface analysis, and troubleshooting issues like bubbling or uneven coverage.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Proficient in basic math for measurements, mixing ratios, and estimating material quantities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for client interactions and team instructions.
  • Problem-solving mindset to adapt to unexpected challenges, such as weather delays or material shortages.
  • Commitment to quality control, with attention to detail ensuring flawless finishes and minimal rework.
  • Basic computer literacy for using apps or software for scheduling, reporting, or inventory tracking.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 25 kg (e.g., paint buckets, ladders), climbing scaffolding or ladders up to 10 meters, and standing/bending for extended periods (8+ hours).
  • Manual dexterity for precise painting and handling tools in various weather conditions (hot, cold, wet).
  • Tolerance for exposure to fumes, dust, and chemicals, mitigated by PPE; must pass a fit test for respirators.
  • Flexibility for irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, or overtime during peak seasons (spring/summer).

Work Environment:

  • Primarily outdoor/field-based at client sites, with exposure to varying weather, heights, and confined spaces; indoor work may involve ventilated areas with potential allergens.
  • Fast-paced, team-oriented setting requiring travel between sites (valid G driver's license and reliable vehicle required; mileage reimbursement provided).
  • Emphasis on safety-first culture, with regular training and access to wellness programs.
  • Opportunities for advancement to be trained in new roles, with ongoing professional development support.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly wage: $ $35 CAD, based on experience and certifications.
  • Company-provided uniforms, PPE, and training reimbursements.
