Job Description
Operators with Cando operate machinery safely to perform a variety of tasks related to railway projects, track construction, and material handling. The Operator ensures safety is a high priority at all times and procedures are respected and followed as per CROR and COR regulations.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Safely operate rail/construction equipment; perform equipment maintenance and keep equipment log books updated
- Perform laboring tasks involved in various rail related projects
- Use track tools safely and efficiently; be responsible for and maintain supplied hand tools for equipment maintenance
- Participate in daily job briefings
- Maintain necessary journals, fuel reports and maintenance documents as required by the Department; properly complete daily paperwork and submit accordingly
- Transport the team to and from various locations; load the equipment and secure for transport
- Build relationships with the customer; interface in a proper and professional manner with the customer via phone, radio, or in person
- Advise when services are needed on truck or equipment; perform daily maintenance on equipment
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Able to work as a team player and take direction from foremen and supervisors
- Be physically fit with the ability to lift 50 pounds regularly
- Understand, record, and apply oral and written instructions; document work activities, and prepare required reports or work orders
- Mechanically inclined; capable of performing troubleshooting and maintenance
- Willingness to adapt to new technological changes and improvements and participate in training and self-development programs; track and document training and attain required signatures for training completion
- Ability to hold and maintain clear drug and alcohol testing; hold and maintain a valid driver's license and mine site safety course
Education & Experience
- Must be able to hold and maintain Canadian Rail Operating Rules, eRailsafe (including criminal background check), mine site safety certification, class 5 driver's license, clear drug and alcohol testing, and First Aid/CPR
- Experience operating various industrial/construction equipment including excavators, loaders and other heavy duty equipment; experience with specialized rail equipment an asset
