Who we are
The Child, Youth and Family Treatment Team (CYFTT) in Whitehorse provides a variety of services including individual counselling for children and youth, family counselling, outreach counselling, youth primary care, and outreach groups. Come grow your career with our dynamic and collaborative team.
Your role
Reporting to a Supervisor of CYFTT, these positions are responsible for working with children and youth ages 6 years and older, in a therapeutic and recreational capacity. Child and Youth Engagement Workers are responsible for developing and facilitating groups that are designed to provide opportunities for children and youth to learn and practice emotion regulation and social skills in a small group setting. You are responsible for observing and documenting behaviour and tailoring group plans based on the goals and needs of individuals in the group and group dynamics.
We are looking for creative and flexible individuals who have a passion for working with children and youth who are experiencing behavioural challenges.

Essential qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
- Post-secondary coursework in Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Development, Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, or another relevant social sciences field.
- Experience implementing community based recreational or life skills programming.
- Experience working with children and youth and caregivers both one-on-one and in a group setting.
- Experience working with children who have experienced trauma and/or knowledge of trauma informed practice would be an asset.
- Experience facilitating safe and meaningful client participation while using person-centered, culturally responsive, or trauma-informed approaches in a children or youth program would be an asset
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications above may be equally considered.

Desired knowledge, skills and suitability
If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on, the following:
- Excellent interpersonal skills in connecting/building relationships with children, youth, family/caregivers and service partners.
- The ability to work effectively as a team member in a dynamic and fast-paced multidisciplinary environment is essential.
- Strong understanding of effective intervention strategies for children and youth with behavioural challenges.
- Providing tailored, high-quality programs co-developed with children, youth and or families to meet their needs.
- Ability to create and maintain a developmentally appropriate, non-judgmental, non-stigmatizing, safe, and welcoming space
- Ability to work collaboratively to develop and implement support plans.
- Ability to facilitate and be comfortable providing land-based programming.
- Knowledge and understanding of diverse backgrounds, experiences and cultures.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.

Conditions of employment
You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.
- RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check
- TB Screening
- Valid Class 5 drivers' licence or equivalent
- Standard First Aid with CPR-C (within 3-months of hire)
- WHMIS 2015 (within 1-month of hire)
Job requirements
This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- This position is exposed to emotional, and sometimes physically abusive clients. The incumbent mediates, de-escalates, resolves, intervenes and provides solutions through face-to-face contact and meetings.
- The incumbent may be required to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Position is required to travel in territory on a daily basis using government vehicles.
- Position requires incumbent to be able to lift 50 lbs and work in an active environment.
- Will be exposed to wilderness elements and working outside often.
