The Tŝilhqot'in National Government is based in Williams Lake, British Columbia serving six communities, including ʔEsdilagh, Tl'etinqox, Tl'esqox, Tŝideldel, Xeni Gwet'in, and Yuneŝit'in. The Tŝilhqot'in National Government's mission is to support and empower Tŝilhqot'in peoples to exercise their rights to self-determination within their traditional territories in ways which reflect Tŝilhqot'in philosophy, values, experience and culture.
The Education and Language Coordinator will provide comprehensive coordination and administrative support to the Language and Education teams, facilitating the integration of the language into educational programs, training initiatives, curricula, and daily operations while ensuring the Nation vision is upheld.
Key Responsibilities
- Support in the development and implementation of the Tŝilhqot'in Language Revitalization Plan
- Assist in developing and coordinating meetings, workshops, training sessions and mentorships for Education and Language teams, community members and language learners
- Research grants and funding opportunities related to language and education initiatives
- Build relationships with Elders, youth, parents, educators, and leadership to ensure educational and language initiatives reflect Nation priorities
- Coordinate language documentation activities, including recording sessions with fluent speakers and archiving materials
- Serve as a liaison between education/language departments and Nation members, ensuring effective communication and transparency
- Help facilitate community consultation sessions and engagement events to gather feedback on educational and language initiatives
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Education, Indigenous Studies, Linguistics, Community Development, or a related field an asset (combined education and relevant experience will be considered)
- Experience supporting program coordination, event planning, or administration
- Familiarity with Indigenous language preservation or involvement in community-based language initiatives an asset
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
- Valid class 5 drivers license
Working Conditions
- Travel will be required
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and additional hardware
- Overtime as required
- Lifting or moving up to 25lbs may be required
