Senior SQL Developer / Senior Reporting Engineer

Location:
Remote across Canada (EST/CST preferred)

Senior Reporting Engineer
with advanced SQL expertise and strong experience in Databricks, SparkSQL, PowerBI, and enterprise reporting modernization. This role will serve as a subject matter expert responsible for transforming fragmented, manually created reports into scalable, standardized, automated reporting assets within an enterprise reporting ecosystem. This position plays a critical role in enabling actionable insights for operational, tactical, and strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Re-engineer and standardize reports originally built by operational users, improving accuracy, consistency, usability, and alignment with enterprise reporting standards.
  • Centralize, mature, and maintain reporting assets to ensure integrity, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and design optimal data visualization solutions.
  • Lead complete dashboard development lifecycle: requirements → design → data integration → testing → deployment → production support.
  • Integrate data from relational databases, APIs, Excel, and enterprise systems to support complex reporting solutions.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, automation forms, and portals using
    PowerBI
    and the
    Power Platform
    .
  • Build data transformations and automation using
    SparkSQL
    ,
    T-SQL
    , and ETL development practices.
  • Implement security controls including
    Row-Level Security (RLS)
    and role-based access in PowerBI.
  • Oversee promotion of reports from development to production, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Provide mentorship, best practices, and leadership to junior developers.
  • Maintain and modernize automated reporting solutions to deliver long-term business value.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years advanced SQL development
    (T-SQL, SparkSQL, MySQL, PL/SQL)

Expert-level SparkSQL & T-SQL (will be tested live during interviews)

  • 3+ years hands-on Databricks experience

Medallion architecture, Unity Catalog, jobs automation, lineage

  • 3+ years SQL Server development

Stored procedures, indexing, CTEs, SSIS, SQL Agent jobs

  • 3+ years Power Platform experience

Power BI (SQL/DAX), Import/Direct Query/Live/API ingestion

  • Advanced visuals, drill-throughs, RLS, data refresh scheduling
  • Proven ability to re-architect manual processes into fully automated reporting workflows
  • Ability to independently reverse-engineer existing systems and build SparkSQL transformations and dashboards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional language experience (Python, PowerShell)
  • ServiceNow / Cybersecurity domain exposure (CMDB, Vulnerability, Incident Response)
  • Certifications: Databricks, Azure Data Engineer, Power Platform, etc.
