Under the direction of the Associate Managers, Notifiable Disease Operations, Outbreak Operations and NDOB Clinical Support and Emerging Issues, and under the authority of the Medical Officer of Health, the Assistant Head Nurse - Notifiable Disease and Outbreak Team provides leadership and guidance to a province-wide team of multidisciplinary staff that conduct public health investigation and follow up for prevention, management and control of routine notifiable diseases and outbreaks of respiratory and rash pathogens in a variety of settings. As a key member of the in-scope leadership team, this position will apply expertise to assist at the zone and provincial level in developing, standardizing, and monitoring routine notifiable diseases and respiratory and rash outbreak response strategies, governance, service planning and delivery across Alberta. This position will end on or before the July 5, 2026. This position will be part of Primary Care Alberta effective November 18, 2024. As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years recent (within the past 5 years) experience at a 0.50 FTE or greater in a public health program. 1-2 years recent (within the past 5 years) experience at a minimum 0.5 FTE in provincial Communicable Disease Control (CDC) in a formal leadership role (AHN or higher) within the routine notifiable disease (ND) or outbreak management (OB) teams OR 2 years recent (within the past 5 years) experience at a minimum 0.5 FTE in provincial CDC as an RN within the routine ND or OB role. Comprehensive knowledge of an immunization program, schedule, and standards. Proficient knowledge and skill regarding the prevention, investigation, and control of ND and OB management, including the principles, legislation and confidentiality involved in CDC. Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, analytical, decision making, teaching, mentoring, and critical thinking skills. Strong time management and prioritization skills. Ability to function effectively within a stressful, rapidly evolving environment with multiple, competing and time-sensitive demands. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with members of a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency using computer applications including Microsoft 365 (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint), immunization, Connect Care, and CDC databases. Reliable internet access and ability to maintain a confidential workspace is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in investigation, management and reporting of notifiable disease incidents, blood and body fluid exposures and outbreaks. Comfortable learning use of new computer applications and systems and working across a variety of applications simultaneously. Leadership experience in a clinical nurse expert role related to communicable disease, outbreak management or infection control.
