POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Facility Services, the Custodial Supervisor provides strong leadership and guidance to custodial teams, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency across all district facilities. This role requires a proactive leader who fosters collaboration, motivates staff, and builds a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Custodial Supervisor values inclusive practices, open communication, and effective problem-solving to support students, staff, tenants, and the public.
SPECFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Recruit, supervise, and evaluate custodial employees; establish priorities and coordinate custodial operations.
- Liaise with school administration to advise on cleaning standards, work scheduling, and address concerns or complaints.
- Assist with preparing plans, specifications, and bid documents for custodial equipment, supplies, and contracts.
- Ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Monitor operating budgets and provide input for planning and budgeting processes.
- Coordinate and oversee external service providers.
- Participate in performance evaluations, employee development, and recruitment processes.
- Attend District Health and Safety Committee meetings and other meetings as required.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies and supervise staff or contractors outside traditional office hours when necessary.
- Review employee attendance and performance; implement improvement plans and coordinate gradual return-to-work programs.
- Manage custodial services procedures manual and equipment inventory.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Extensive knowledge of custodial materials, methods, tools, equipment, and best practices.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Word and MS Excel.
- Demonstrated experience supervising employees in a unionized environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, coach, and develop teams.
- Skilled in conflict resolution, team building, and fostering positive employee relations.
- Ability to make sound decisions in crisis situations using critical thinking and analytical problem-solving.
- Excellent organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain respectful, cooperative, and collaborative relationships with staff and partner groups.

- High level of discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Flexible and adaptable with strong diplomacy skills.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent high school diploma.
- Diploma or Certificate in Facility Management, Business Management, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of five years' experience in custodial operations and employee management, preferably in a complex multi-union public sector environment.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License; business use of a personal vehicle may be required.
- Proven ability to foster strong employee relations and effective management practices.
- Self-awareness and commitment to personal growth and continuous learning.
- Proficiency with computers and a variety of software programs.
We offer competitive salaries based on the BCPSEA Salary Grid for Exempt Staff. Our total rewards package includes competitive salary, benefits, pension, and professional development opportunities. The 2024 salary range for full-time positions for a Custodial Supervisor is$85,260 to $106,575.
