Controller - Part/Time
Our client is an independent, full-service certified public accounting firm specializing in accounting and tax services for businesses and individuals. They are currently seek a part-time Controller (3-4 days per week and closer to full-time hours during the busy season from March - June). The Controller will lead and oversee all financial procedures as well as manage the internal accounting department, accounting transactions and general firm administration. This position will report directly to the partner group.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage and supervise a team of 5
- Manage the Human Resources function for the firm
- Manage accounts payable, payroll, government remittances, employee benefits and accounts receivable processes and reporting
- Prepare monthly financial reports from the time and billing system with comparison with prior periods, as well as ad hoc reports as needed
- Manage and report on cash flow
- Assist in automating accounting processes
- Prepare year end financial statement for various in-house companies with supporting documentation
- Regulatory compliance and other completion of surveys and reports
- Oversee entire Firm billing/accounting department in connection with work-in-process, collection of receivables and the timeliness of financial reporting
- Prepare and file:
- Corporate tax returns
- Partnership Tax Returns
- T4's, T5's, T2200's
- Improve, monitor, and update internal accounting policies and procedures
- Be responsible for physical office improvements and maintenance such as renovations, alarms, furniture
- Fill in for team members and perform their duties when they are on vacation
- Coordinate insurance renewals and evaluate risk management

Requirements:
- Experience in a professional services firm (accounting, legal, consulting, or similar)
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business or accounting
- CPA
- Minimum 7 years' experience in accounting (at least 3 as a Controller or similar role)
- Solid management/supervisory experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of GAAP
- Experience with accounting and payroll software
- Hands-on experience with general ledger, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment
