About us
TerraFixing is a Canadian company developing Direct Air Capture (DAC) systems designed to operate efficiently in cold climates. Our technology captures CO₂ directly from the atmosphere using proprietary adsorption processes and enables decarbonization in remote northern regions where renewable energy potential is high.
Having secured over $3M in government funding (NRCan, SDTC, IRAP) and a $10M commercial agreement, TerraFixing is at a pivotal stage of growth. We are scaling our technology from lab prototypes to commercial-ready units capable of removing CO₂ from the atmosphere at low cost and high efficiency.
We are a growth-mindset company — our capabilities, technology, and impact expand every day. We are on a noble mission to fix global warming, and while the work is challenging, we face it with grit, optimism, and a commitment to creating a better future. At TerraFixing, communication, teamwork, and constructive conflict resolution are essential to how we build both our technology and our culture.

Purpose of the role
As a Climate Hardware Engineer (Mechanical Focus), you will help design, build, and test the mechanical systems that form the backbone of TerraFixing's DAC units — including vessels, flow systems, enclosures, and thermal components.
This role is ideal for engineers who love to design and then build what they create, combining analytical and hands-on work. You'll be part of a small, fast-moving team that prototypes, tests, and refines mechanical systems that will eventually scale into large containerized DAC installations.
Your work will directly contribute to the development and deployment of climate hardware that captures CO₂ from the atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems, including CAD layouts, assemblies, and fabrication drawings.
- Build, assemble, and test mechanical and thermal subsystems for prototype and pilot DAC units.
- Support design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for prototyping (DFP) activities.
- Select and integrate pumps, valves, pressure vessels, flow components, and structural elements.
- Conduct analysis and verification of system design requirements, including strength, thermal, and flow considerations.
- Collaborate with electrical, process, and controls engineers to ensure full system integration.
- Participate in equipment installation, commissioning, and inspection to verify assembly and performance.
- Identify, procure, and maintain tools and components required for development work.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and documentation of mechanical design standards and testing processes.
Preferred Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related Engineering disciplines.
- 0–3 years of relevant experience (co-ops, research projects, or personal hands-on projects count).
- Demonstrated ability to build and test mechanical systems — through projects, or prototypes.
- Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360) for 2D and 3D design.
- Understanding of design for manufacturing and design for prototyping.
- Familiarity with:
- Pumps, valves, pressure vessels, and flow systems
- Thermal systems and heat transfer fundamentals
- Machining, 3D printing, or CNC fabrication
- Structural or fluid simulations (FEA/CFD)
- Material selection for metals, ceramics, or polymers
- Strong teamwork, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Curious, adaptable, and passionate about building technology that helps solve climate change.
What we offer:
- Work that directly contributes to carbon removal.
- A collaborative, innovative environment where learning and iteration are encouraged.
- Mentorship and growth opportunities within a rapidly scaling startup.
- Competitive compensation, health and dental benefits, and employee stock options.
- A team culture built on trust, openness, and purpose — where doing hard things well is celebrated.
