The Clinical Psychologist in the Pediatric Chronic Pain Program will play a key role in ongoing program development and implementation, as well as quality improvements, the design of program evaluation and research projects. As a member of the inter-professional pediatric chronic pain team, the psychologist with deliver care to children, youth and families in an outpatient tertiary care setting. The psychologist will promote excellence in pediatric patient and family-centered care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. Responsibilities will include\: providing psychological assessment and treatment as part of an inter-professional team focusing on chronic disease management (interventions include individual, family, and group); managing and maintaining an active case workload as per program requirements and expectations; working collaboratively with other team members to develop and implement comprehensive individualized care plans for children and adolescents; providing results of clinical assessments and provision of treatment in an interdisciplinary setting; acting as a resource to other team members regarding psycho-diagnostic assessment, therapeutic intervention and program policy; providing consultation/liaison to caregivers and community agencies; developing and providing staff education and training; developing program evaluations, integrated research projects and quality assurance projects; and being an active member in program development initiatives.

McMaster Children's Hospital (MCH) is part of the Hamilton Health Sciences' family of hospitals. MCH serves a community of 2.3 million people from south central Ontario and beyond. The Pediatric Chronic Pain Program is an ambulatory clinic of the Child and Youth Clinic. The program provides coordinated, comprehensive pediatric chronic pain services through ambulatory clinics with an inter-professional case management model of care, as well as through an outpatient day program. The Pediatric Chronic Pain Program provides an inter-professional mental health and functional rehabilitation approach with expertise in pediatric chronic pain management within a family-centered environment. The program provides tertiary and subspecialty care to children with complex chronic pain conditions.

1. Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from an accredited university, with a preference given to those with an emphasis in pediatric populations. 
2. Registered or eligible for registration in Clinical Psychology and/or Health Psychology with the College of Psychologists of Ontario; must be authorized to work with children and adolescents (with a preference given to those who are also authorized to work with families). 
3. Extensive knowledge and current experience in the provision of psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment focusing on chronic disease management strategies in a pediatric population.
4. Experience with individual, group and family therapy for pediatric chronic pain is preferred. 
5. Expertise in a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities (e.g., cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, family therapy, motivational interviewing techniques, mindfulness-based therapies, and other evidence-based therapies).
6. A minimum of two years of recent, relevant experience in a healthcare setting, preferably serving an outpatient pediatric population.
7. Advanced skills in the development and documentation of specific interventions, conducting research (including methodological design, data management, statistics), and evaluating service outcomes for children and adolescents with complex health conditions.
8. Demonstrated competency and experience in the administration and interpretation of psychological tests, particularly those tests relevant to the assessment of personality and socio-emotional functioning.
9. Demonstrated strength in consultation, teaching, inter-professional collaboration, educating health care providers and community stakeholders, and supervising advanced learners.
10. Eligible for part-time appointment at McMaster University.
11. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills. 
12. Excellent leadership skills and proven ability to organize, prioritize, and problem-solve effectively.
13. Evidence of self-motivation, enthusiasm, flexibility and ongoing learning.
14. Willingness to work with and evaluate a growing program.
