About The Role
The Operational Accounting billing team operates within our Controllership team. We oversee full cycle billings for our partner ecosystem, and enterprise merchants. We are a small collaborative team that works with groups inside and outside of finance to ensure accurate revenue reporting and receivables management. The scope of our work is high-context and fast paced. We move fluidly, adapting to the ever changing needs of the business, and as such, being relationship-savvy, proactive, and comfortable in ambiguity - that's table stakes. Beyond that, the right person for this role will be oriented to growth, hyper curious, and always sweating the details.

The Billing Specialist will specifically oversee the complete cycle of billings and collections related to our partners with custom deals which includes but not limited to the following:

  • Create invoices in Shopify's accounting system, ensuring the accuracy of details such as amounts, GL and period allocations, currency, and subsidiary information.
  • Ensure invoices are aligned with expectations and are properly approved and emailed to the customer
  • Assist in the month-end close and revenue accrual process
  • Account reconciliations for partners and merchants
  • Provide explanations for variances to internal stakeholders and auditors.
  • Ad-hoc projects as required in coordination with Controllership
  • Assist with pulling samples for internal and external audits and respond to related inquiries.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Revenue and Partnerships
  • Respond to customer and employee inquiries
  • Prepare various billing statistics and key performance indicators (KPIs)

Qualifications

  • Diploma/Degree in Accounting
  • Proven experience in a similar finance role
  • Understanding of theoretical accounting concepts, such as revenue recognition, receivables, and write-offs
  • Experience using G-suite tools
  • Ability to work independently with little direction
  • High standards with regards to processing quickly and accurately - attention to detail is key in this role
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Readiness to go the extra mile to avoid mistakes
  • Always looking for ways to improve processes
  • Actively learning AI best practices
