Job Description
Our client is seeking a seasoned Controller for a permanent role based in the Greater Halifax area (outside of the downtown and peninsula core).
This is strategic leadership opportunity to oversee the finance and accounting function, providing actionable insights that drive key business decisions. The ideal candidate is a confident, proactive professional with strong operational accounting experience and the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, practical guidance for management.
Key Responsibilities for the Job:
Lead the accounting and finance function, providing guidance, mentorship, and oversight for a team of fourEnsure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly statements and management reportsMaintain strong internal controls, accounting procedures, and compliance with applicable standardsOversee work in progress (WIP), revenue recognition, and job costing for operational projectsManage inventory tracking, valuation, and reconciliation to physical countsMonitor invoicing, accounts receivable, and collections to support healthy cash flowAnalyze financial results, variances, and operational metrics, providing actionable insights to managementLead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, including scenario analysisPartner with operations and leadership to align financial strategy with business realitiesCoordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors as requiredSupport audits, reviews, and other external reporting requirementsDrive continuous improvement in financial processes, reporting, and operational efficiencyExperience & Attributes for Success:
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is strongly preferredStrong operational accounting and financial management experienceProven leadership skills with experience managing a teamExperience overseeing multiple companies or business units is an assetProactive and outgoing demeanor with the ability to partner effectively with operational teamsAdaptable and resilient in a fast-paced, multi-company environmentExcellent communication skills to present financial information clearly to all stakeholdersThis is a high-impact role where your financial expertise will directly influence strategic decisions and operational success.
