Posting #: Title: Senior Accounting Clerk - Accounts Payable (Full Time) Department: Finance Duties: The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve an efficient operation in the Finance Department through reliable performance of accounting functions and staff supervision as assigned, observing and complying with municipal policies, and statutory requirements ensuring the safety and security of confidential material/matters pertaining to the Department's operation.
Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, the Senior Accounting Clerk – Accounts Payable is responsible for reviewing accounts payable entries, ensuring accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices, payments, and other financial records.
This position primarily supports the accounting function of the finance department in maintaining financial compliance and provides support to internal departments, management, and vendors.
The Senior Accounting Clerk – Accounts Payable will perform a variety of clerical and accounting work varying in degrees of complexity, and responsibility, including preparing reconciliations such as the City's bank accounts, preparing GST/PST returns, and preparing various financial reports as required. The work performed requires public sector accounting standard (PSAS) knowledge, local government finance experience, the ability to work effectively within a team as well as independently and have a commitment to quality control when reviewing the work of other clerical staff.
The Senior Accounting Clerk – Accounts Payable prepares working papers and other reconciliations related to audit requirements; and liaises with external auditors as necessary during the annual audit. This position will act as an ERP software super user as it pertains to Accounts Payable.
The incumbent will be required to supervise staff as assigned, planning and assigning work and reviewing the same to ensure accuracy.
The Senior Accounting Clerk – Accounts Payable will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
The incumbent in this class will normally work the standard work week of Monday to Friday within the hours specified and on occasion work overtime as authorized. The incumbent, upon hiring, will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Collective Agreement. The incumbent will be responsible for performing tasks associated with Accounting Clerk "housekeeping" duties.
Education: Must have grade 12 education supplemented by post secondary courses in bookkeeping or accounting; Skills: - Able to plan, direct and supervise work of subordinates;
- Good knowledge of the functions, practices and procedures, bylaws, policies and regulations pertaining to the operation of the Finance Department;
- Good knowledge of modern office practices and municipal accounting procedures and operations;
- Able to operate a variety of standard office equipment, accounting machines and computer terminals;
- Able to be polite, tactful and courteous in dealing with the public and be neat in appearance;
- Able to perform mathematical and arithmetic computations with speed and accuracy;
- Able to perform tasks with minimal supervision;
- Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and other members of the staff.
