Algoma Power Inc. (API) is looking for a motivated, self-starter, who has a positive attitude with the ability to work as part of a dynamic Information Technology team. Reporting to the Supervisor, IT Infrastructure & Security, the IT Technician will support the needs of the IT Infrastructure and Security division. The co-op candidate selected will be responsible for providing hardware and software installation, configuration, maintenance and upgrades of corporate network, server, storage, and telecommunication technologies. Duties also include upholding security/data protection and help-desk support in line with corporate standards and best practices.
Main duties/responsibilities include:
• Maintain IT/OT operational configurations of all in-place security solutions as per established cybersecurity policies, procedures, or processes.
• Maintain and support local and wide area network (LAN/WAN) devices including installation, configuration, and baseline security.
• Receive, prioritize, document, and actively resolve end user help requests. Problem resolution may involve providing end user training, hands-on or remote assistance where applicable.
• Create and maintain documentation as it relates to corporate technology or business processes: hardware or software configuration, network mapping, process integration, and service desk solutions.
• Support and assist other Information Technology department members as required.
• Maintain and adhere to corporate IT policy and procedures.
The ideal candidate for this co-op placement opportunity will have the following qualifications:
• Enrolled in an accredited College or University within an Information Technology program or equivalent.
• Knowledge of server/storage/telecommunication methodologies, networking protocols and devices, cyber security mitigation.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical, customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work as a team member and independently on assigned projects.
• Valid class "G" Ontario driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
• Knowledge and experience in working with MS office suite would be an asset.
