The Wastewater Treatment Branch manages the operation and maintenance of the major City wastewater treatment facility and various communal treatment systems, provides technical expertise for wastewater treatment process technologies, and is responsible to protect public health by ensuring all environmental compliances and preventive and corrective maintenance are performed as required. The Wastewater Collection Branch is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's Wastewater Collection infrastructure and systems including communal wastewater treatment facilities and wastewater system, and oversees the Sewer Use Program.
You are responsible for supervising, scheduling, organizing, coordinating and leading the work activities of staff engaged in monitoring, adjusting and controlling the overall process and 24-hour operation of a multi-component sewage treatment facility, ensuring that operations are conducted in compliance with all applicable legislation and regulations.
You also fulfil the duties of Overall Responsible Operator, in accordance with legislative regulations for assigned area of work, and participate in the regular rotation as the designated Overall Responsible Operator of the city's wastewater collection/treatment facilities outside of normal working hours.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCECompletion of 3 year community college diploma as an Engineering Technologist, preferably with emphasis in environmental, waste water treatment, chemical or biochemical technology.
Completion of the Corporate curriculum of "Supervisory skills for emerging leaders", or equivalent supervisory training is desirable.
Minimum of 6 years of Operating experience, with 5 years as Operator-In-Charge in a Class IV licensed Wastewater Treatment Facility
The incumbent must have increasingly responsible work experience, and have demonstrated the capability to directly supervise other employees
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCESMust obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Class 4 Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer Must possess and maintain Ontario MOE Class 3 Wastewater Collection Operator Certificate Confined space entry training or completion of this training within the timeframe defined by the employer KNOWLEDGE
- City, department and branch by-laws, policies, procedures, standards and specifications affecting Waste Water Services responsibilities, facilities and equipment

- Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures
