Nature of the work
The position of academic and vocational information counsellor encompasses, in particular, responsibility for providing information, advice, assistance and guidance to students in the youth and adult sectors on programs of study, course selection and labour market to help them become familiar with academic and career paths so as to make informed choices.
Recognition of Acquired Competencies services supports adult learners in obtaining official recognition for the skills and knowledge they have gained through work experience, training, or life experience, without necessarily having followed traditional academic pathways. The goal is to help candidates earn a diploma or certification more efficiently by validating what they already know.
Description of tasks
Specific to the RAC services :
- Coordinate and manage the implementation of RAC activities
- Contribute to the promotion of the programs offered in the RAC process
- Participate in the development of RAC instrumentation and the monitoring of candidates' progress with administrative management tools specific to the RAC.
- Propose new avenues for the development of programs offered in RAC in line with the needs of the labour market and is involved in their development.
- Participate in the development of the continuing education service offer
- propose to develop and implement best practices in RAC, in a spirit of continuous improvement.
- Any other related activity without being exhaustive.
General tasks of this classification
- Participate in developing and implementing an academic and vocation information service that meets the academic and administrative requirements of both the educational institution and the school board.
- Guide students in preparing their educational path by providing them with any pertinent information on the educational path chosen.
- Help students identify their needs and analyze the students' record, while taking into account their aptitudes and interests.
- Prepare and conduct, with a multidisciplinary team, awareness, information, and training activities intended for students so as to arouse their interest in the labour market, to motivate them in school and to access the achievement of objectives.
- Act as a resource person for the guidance-oriented approach and help the education community to set up the activities with this approach.
- Plan, organize and conduct academic and vocational information activities
- Work with other staff members to prepare and publish brochures and guides
- Establish and maintain relationships and collaboration with representatives of the labour market, educational institutions, and other organizations that could be involved in providing guidance to students.
- Promote the activities and courses offered and responds to internal and external information requests.
- Inform and support students in filling out applications for programs and financial aid.
- Prepare and update files according to the rules defined by the school or centre.
Desired profile
Schooling
A bachelor's degree in an appropriate specialty, notably
- Academic and vocational counelling
- Guidance counselling
A graduate-level degree related to intervention in vocational training and /or special education will be considered an asset.
Other requirements
- Bilingual (Written and Spoken)
- Experience with Adult Learners and Educators (considered an asset)
- Knowledge of Vocational Programs and RAC (considered an asset)
- Collaboration skills
- Project management skills
- Driver's License (frequent travel in Estrie)
- Available evenings/weekends (to accommodate the candidates' schedules)
