Position Overview

Glengarry Inter-Agency Group (GIAG) is seeking a dedicated Child Care Worker / Educator to join our licensed TLC Before & After School Program at Winchester Public School. This position is open to candidates who are:

  • Actively pursuing Early Childhood Education (ECE) studies, or
  • Graduates with a diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Services, or
  • Members in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers.

This role provides the opportunity to create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment for school-age children. The Child Care Worker/Educator will work collaboratively with the TLC team, families, community partners, and school boards to support children's learning, development, and well-being while ensuring compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and Ministry of Education regulations.

Position Details

Shifts: Monday to Friday, 6:30–9:30 AM & 3:30–6:00 PM (Split Shifts)

Vacation Pay: 6% included in bi-weekly pay

Benefits: Manulife benefits available after 3 months

Leave: 10 paid sick days (1 per month) + 3 paid personal days per year

Additional Shifts: Straight 6-hour shifts on PA Days, March Break, and Summer Break

Key Responsibilities

Child Care & Program Delivery

· Maintain a welcoming, safe, and stimulating environment for children and families.

· Plan and implement programs guided by How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years, promoting belonging, well-being, engagement, and expression.

· Observe children for learning, developmental, or emotional concerns; develop individualized support plans in collaboration with families and the Site Supervisor.

· Set up and maintain play environments, toys, and resources in good repair.

· Communicate with families regarding children's daily experiences and support transitions.

Regulatory & Licensing Compliance

· Ensure compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), Ministry of Education, and Eastern Ontario Health Unit guidelines.

· Maintain accurate daily records of attendance, registration, and program activities.

· Respond professionally to program-related emails, phone calls, and correspondence.

· Report any Serious Occurrences promptly to the Site Supervisor and Program Manager.

· Attend team meetings, professional development trainings, and community meetings as required.

Team Leadership & Supervision

· Collaborate with staff, volunteers, students, and community partners to deliver quality programming.

· Supervise co-op students, ECE placements, summer students, or volunteers as needed.

· Support and mentor colleagues to ensure high quality childcare delivery.

Qualifications

· Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certification

· Current and clear Vulnerable Sector Check

· Up-to-date immunizations and health assessment reflecting:

o Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis (Tdap): Required every 10 years

o Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR): 2 documented doses OR blood test (born before 1970 are considered immune)

o Varicella (Chickenpox): 2 doses OR self-reported OR blood test

o Hepatitis B: 2 or 3 doses, depending on age

· Knowledge of the CCEYA, How Does Learning Happen?, and current EOHU childcare guidelines

· Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving and teamwork skills

· Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Office 365, Zoom, MS Teams)

· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
