Farm Mechanic / Equipment Operator
Location: D&C Vander Zaag Farms Ltd, Shelburne, ON
Type: Full-time, Year-round
Compensation: Competitive pay based on experience
Position Overview
We are an innovative, progressive potato farm looking for a Farm Mechanic / Equipment Operator to join our team. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys mechanical problem-solving, operating modern equipment, and working in a fast-paced agricultural environment.

Key Responsibilities
· Diagnose, repair, and maintain farm and potato-specific equipment, including:
Tractors, trucks, and field equipment
Potato planters, harvesters, pilers, windrowers, conveyors
Irrigation systems, pumps, and storage/handling equipment
Perform preventative maintenance and off-season rebuilds
Operate equipment during planting, hilling, spraying, harvest, and storage operations
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues
Assist with loading, unloading, and potato storage operations
Maintain accurate service records and a clean, safe, and organized shop
Work collaboratively with the team and contribute ideas for improvement
What We're Looking For
Strong mechanical aptitude with agricultural or heavy equipment
Experience operating farm machinery (potato equipment experience an asset)
Positive attitude and respect for coworkers, equipment, and the workplace
Willingness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Welding and fabrication skills considered an asset
Willingness to work extended hours during planting and harvest seasons
Qualifications
Valid driver's licence required
DZ or CDL licence considered a strong asset
Previous agricultural, mechanical, or heavy equipment experience preferred
Work Environment
Outdoor, hands-on repairs during the growing season
Shop-based work for scheduled maintenance and off-season projects
Physically demanding at times
