NGIF Capital Corp., through its subsidiary NGIF Accelerator, is hiring a Tech Scout to join the team responsible for advancing emerging technology opportunities to market through technology development projects. The Tech Scout will play a critical role in sourcing, evaluating, and championing breakthrough innovations that have the potential to transform the natural gas sector and advance cleantech adoption in Canada and beyond.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technology intelligence capabilities, a deep curiosity for emerging solutions, and the ability to translate technical and market insights into actionable opportunities. This role blends early-stage technology scouting with strategic ecosystem engagement, working across startups, academia, research institutions, and industrial partners to identify promising technologies aligned with NGIF's innovation priorities.
As a highly external-facing position, the Tech Scout will build and maintain relationships with technology proponents, innovators, solution providers, investors, and key stakeholders across the energy and cleantech ecosystems. The role involves conducting detailed assessments of early-stage technologies, evaluating technical feasibility and commercial readiness, analyzing competitive landscapes, and identifying pathways for pilot demonstration and commercialization.
Tech Scout will also support market and sector studies to uncover emerging trends, gaps, and opportunities in the natural gas value chain - spanning production, transmission, distribution, RNG, methane emissions reduction, carbon capture, and other low-carbon technologies. Through this work, the Tech Scout will help position NGIF Accelerator as a leading connector and catalyst for clean technology innovation, driving solutions that make natural gas energy more sustainable, efficient, and competitive in the future.
About the NGIF Accelerator
NGIF Accelerator is the not-for-profit arm of NGIF Capital Corp and operates all technology and innovation programs. The NGIF Accelerator mandate is to de-risk and accelerate technology development by supporting startups through their pilot projects, field trials, and industry validation. It will coordinate with federal and provincial governments to co-fund projects to advance market commercialization. NGIF Accelerator currently operates the Industry Grants program and administers the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre program.
About the Industry Grants program
The Industry Grants program is industry-led and offers non-dilutive grants to fund early-stage startups for technology development and field demonstration. The program specifically de-risks pre-commercial technology solutions that have the potential to increase the environmental performance of the natural gas sector. Each project in the program will accelerate technology readiness level progressions through controlled pilot testing and field trials to advance commercialization. The Industry Grants program is operated by the NGIF Accelerator.
About the NGIF Emissions Testing Center program
The NGIF Emissions Testing Centre (ETC) program involves collaboration between industry, academia, and government. It involves public support to ensure cleantech companies have a dedicated space to develop, test, and field–validate technologies to measure, monitor, and reduce methane emissions and to fast-track methane technologies to market through knowledge dissemination and fostering commercialization. The program is unique in that it provides cleantech companies with free access to testing and commercialization support for rapid scale-up of technologies from concept to commercial–ready deployment.
Responsibilities
• Scout and source high-potential cleantech technologies globally across startups, research institutions, corporates, and innovation hubs; proactively engage with the ecosystem to identify solutions aligned with natural gas, low-carbon, and utility sector priorities.
• Build and maintain strong external relationships with technology developers, industry partners, investors, academic institutions, and government agencies to strengthen NGIF Accelerator's network and visibility.

• Monitor industry, market, and policy trends affecting cleantech adoption, including regulatory developments, funding landscapes, and sector-specific innovation drivers.
• Perform market studies and policy analysis to define opportunity areas, assess adoption barriers, understand regulatory incentives, and map commercialization pathways across key jurisdictions.
• Manage and enhance internal technology intelligence systems, including databases, applicant pipelines, and partner tracking tools, ensuring accurate and timely information for decision-making.
• Develop clear technical and non-technical briefs to support internal evaluations, Investment Committee materials, reporting requirements, and external stakeholder communications.
• Provide strategic insights and recommendations to guide the accelerator's thematic focus, technology priorities, and innovation strategy.
• Support technology intake, screening, and evaluation processes for the Industry Grants Program, including diligence activities and assessment scoring.
