Overview
As part of the multi-disciplinary team the Unit Clerk acts as part of a multi-disciplinary team, facilitating patient flow throughout the clinic visit. This may involve booking, registration, preparing a patient for an examination and arranging post-visit follow-up.

Primary Responsibiltiies

  • Responsible for inventory of cath lab supplies, equipment
  • Coordinates the availability of equipment, supplies and patient records while preparing an area for clinic.
  • Facilitates, as part of the multidisciplinary team, the patient flow through the clinic by registering the patient as necessary, collecting information from the patient, labs, diagnostic imaging, family physicians and Medical Records, and ensures the patient is prepared appropropriately for the visit/examination.
  • Communicates concerns / information regarding patients or clinics to clinic team and documents appropriately.
  • Maintains a clean work environment and cares for equipment as needed, reporting any damaged or lost inventory.
  • Collaborates with other clinics to ensurequality patient care is delivered throughout the directorate.
  • Maintains collegial relationships with all members of the patient care team, and is actively involved in directorate governance structure.
  • Ensure accuracy in sending (mailing, faxing) of reports to Physicians.
  • Participates in all mandatory MGH programs.
  • Be flexible with schedule, able to work evening, weekend and day shifts as needed

EDUCATION

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Post secondary education preferred.
  • Medical terminology certificate from accredited college preferred

Qualifications

  • Previous Unit Clerk experience preferred.
  • Related experience in a hospital environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as part of a multidisciplinary team in an extremely fast paced environment.
  • Previous experience with data collection, data entry and statistics.
  • Proven innovation in problem solving skills and critical thinking.
  • Excellent communication skills when dealing with co-workers, other disciplines, other departments, patients/families, family physicians and external agencies.
  • Expert at Omniserver, Powerchart, CWM, Cerner registration system, Word and Excel.
  • Expert at ESM, SRM, CPDI Work Queue monitor
  • Experience in CorHealth Ontario data collection
  • Able to process complete requisitions as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procedures, terminology and equipment in Cardiorespiratoryservices preferred.
  • Excellent telephone manner.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Body Substance Precautions and Back Awareness training.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with patients, to provide patient-centered care.
  • Must be prepared to workin all areas of Medicine Health Services (skills & abilities considered).
  • Good work and attendance record required.
