Nature & Scope
At the YMCA, we're committed to helping children and families thrive. The Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR) program provides services and support to childcare providers and parents throughout Prince George. We work to enhance the availability and quality of childcare services by providing information, support, resources as well as referral services to families and childcare providers across our region.
The Indigenous CCRR Advisor is responsible for strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities and supporting culturally grounded early learning and childcare services. The role ensures that CCRR programs, outreach, and professional development activities reflect Indigenous perspectives, values, and priorities.
Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:
Indigenous Community Engagement & Collaboration
- Build and sustain strong, respectful, and reciprocal relationships with local First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities through ongoing outreach and relationship-based engagement.
- Work collaboratively with Indigenous-led service providers and organizations to co-develop and deliver community-identified programs and strengthen partnerships.
- Plan and implement outreach activities for childcare providers and families, including outdoor story times and community engagement events in ways that are culturally grounded and responsive to local Indigenous contexts.
- Create opportunities for relationship-building, networking and shared outreach with local Indigenous-led service providers and community partners.
- Act as a liaison between YMCA BC CCRR and Indigenous community partners, supporting transparent, respectful and culturally grounded communication.
- Participate in community events, gatherings, and meetings at the invitation of Indigenous partners, representing YMCA BC CCRR in a respectful and accountable manner.
- Plan and implement culturally safe outreach activities, drop‑in programs, events, and early years programming in collaboration with Indigenous communities.
- Develop and deliver culturally safe, inclusive, and respectful professional development for Indigenous and non‑Indigenous service providers informed by Indigenous perspectives and priorities related to quality childcare.
- Develop resources and tools that support culturally informed and community-responsive early learning and childcare practices.
- Ensure all CCRR services are delivered with cultural humility, reflective practice and a commitment to ongoing learning.
Additional Duties
- Provide strong customer service and support to individuals and organizations accessing CCRR services.
- Provide childcare information, consultations, and referrals to families.
- Offer consultation, networking opportunities, training, and resource development to Indigenous and non‑Indigenous childcare providers.
- Support families and childcare providers accessing the Early Learning Lending Library.
- Facilitate workshops, courses, programs, networking opportunities, community events, and conferences for childcare providers, early childhood educators, and parents.
- Maintain positive working relationships with community agencies and service providers.
- Know, understand, and uphold all BC Government CCRR Program Standards and YMCA BC legal requirements.
Qualification-you bring:
- Early Childhood Education Certificate or equivalent training. (asset)
- Lived Experience as an Indigenous Person-Understanding of community traditions, values, languages, and protocols (asset)
- Connection to local First Nation, Métis, or Inuit community (asset)
- Knowledge of Indigenous early learning frameworks
For example: BC's Early Learning Framework (2022) - Experience working with Indigenous children, families, and Elders-Relationship‑building
- Ability to integrate traditional teachings, land‑based learning, and culture
- Experience working in childcare and/or within the early years sector
- Experience facilitating workshops, networking opportunities and early years programs
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and ability to use vehicle for travel
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage time effectively.
- Administrative experience, background in customer experience, computers and Microsoft Office 365.
- Current Emergency Childcare First Aid/CPR certificate.
- Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
