Job Description:

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two -year community/technical college that offers more than 75 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor's degree. HGTC offers three convenient campus locations in South Carolina, including Myrtle Beach, Conway and Georgetown.

Horry-Georgetown Technical College seeks a full-time Civil Engineering instructor. The successful candidate will be required to teach Civil Engineering courses at any Horry-Georgetown Technical College campus location. The successful candidate will be accountable to the department chair for the fulfillment of his or her function, responsibilities, authority and relationships, and for their proper interpretation.

The Associate Professor of Civil Engineering provides quality instruction and leadership in the Civil Engineering Technology program. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses in areas such as surveying, structural analysis, materials testing, CAD, and civil design, while helping students develop the practical skills needed for success in the field.

This role offers the opportunity to shape the curriculum, engage with local industry partners, and mentor students who are eager to make an impact in South Carolina's growing infrastructure and construction sectors. This individual will be responsible for the following duties (this list is not intended to be exhaustive). 

  • Teach assigned courses in Civil Engineering Technology and related areas using engaging, hands-on instructional methods.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, software, and technologies.
  • Develop and update curriculum materials to align with accreditation standards and workforce needs.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.
  • Participate in program assessment, student learning outcomes evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, advisory committees, and community partners to strengthen the program and promote student success.
  • Support the College's mission, vision, and values through active participation in committees, professional development, and community engagement.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or closely related field with minimum of three to five years related work experience. 



Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field with registration as a professional engineer, teaching experience; three to five years related work experience.
