Part-Time Maintenance Worker – Job Description
Position Overview The Part-Time Maintenance Worker is responsible for general building maintenance to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for members and guests of the Bowmanville Older Adult Association. This role works collaboratively with the Full-Time Maintenance Worker and other part-time staff, and reports to the Facilities and Transportation Manager and Maintenance Supervisor. This position is primarily on Saturdays and Sundays, with occasional weekday evenings as needed, and includes serving as front-of-house staff during rentals on weekends.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Facilities & Operations - Set up and take down rooms for daily programs and events, including tables, chairs, and program equipment. - Manage daily garbage, recycling, and yard waste; transport to garage and curb in accordance with schedules. - Assist in keeping the garage clean and organized. - Ensure facilities remain clean and safe for members, guests, and staff. - Follow regular cleaning routines, including sweeping, mopping, washroom cleaning, and disinfecting high-touch surfaces. - Assist with dishwashing and kitchen cleaning as required. - Support outdoor and grounds upkeep as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor. - Serve as front-of-house staff during facility rentals on Saturdays and Sundays, including welcoming renters, providing customer service, opening/closing the facility, and ensuring rental spaces are properly set up and supervised. - Perform security duties when needed. - Lock up the facility and arm/disarm the security system. - Complete general maintenance and labour tasks such as changing filters and bulbs, polishing floors, installing fans or AC units, and small handyperson repairs. - Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Background - High school diploma or GED. - Experience in cleaning, maintenance, handyperson, factory, labour, or painting roles is an asset.
Skills & Requirements - Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks. - Ability to follow directions, routines, and protocols accurately. - Comfortable using tools and climbing ladders. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills. - Reliable, adaptable, and able to problem-solve. - Able to work effectively with staff, volunteers, members, and leadership. - Comfortable working in a busy environment and under pressure. - Professional and positive representation of BOAA at all times. - Flexibility to work primarily weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and occasional weekday evenings, including front-of-house duties during rentals. - Valid Ontario G Driver's License and access to a vehicle for travel within Durham Region.
