Open to students registered in a recognized co-op program only (Within the Greater Victoria area)

  • Duration: Spring and Fall (May-December 2026; 8 months)
  • Location: Victoria (our office is situated on the Selkirk Waterfront on the Gorge Inlet. Enjoy stunning views of downtown Victoria and the Olympic mountains and take advantage of the nearby Galloping Goose Regional Trail for walking and biking).
  • Salary: $1,981.52 bi-weekly – Grid 7, Step 3 (for students working towards a diploma or bachelor's degree) or $2,267.02 bi-weekly – Grid 12, Step 3 (for students working towards a post-graduate degree).
  • Grant: As part of our inVESTED scholarship program, you may be eligible for reimbursement up to a maximum of $1,000 per four-month work term to cover the cost of co-op term tuition fees.

  • Team: The IT Infrastructure team is responsible for the implementation, delivery, monitoring, and support of internal and external clients facing cloud-based systems (e.g. Azure, OCI, M365) and traditional infrastructure technologies (compute, backup & storage, network, etc.).
Responsibilities

This IT Operations role will offer work experience with all aspects of IT Operations that will be 100% transferrable to other industries.  Students will use traditional tools as well as new cloud-based tools specifically in the Azure space as part of this role.

  • Incident, Change, Problem Management
  • MS Teams Meeting Room device setup, maintenance, and support
  • Tier-3 Support of Microsoft 365 applications like Teams, Defender, Endpoint Manager, Azure AD, Exchange
  • Active Directory
  • Device Management (images, drivers, operating systems)
  • Testing and Quality Control of endpoints (laptops/desktops)
  • Wireless Access Point support
  • Monitoring and addressing Application Health for M365 application
  • Technology testing (s/w, h/w, OS, f/w)
  • Technology research
  • Miscellaneous Project participation (i.e., SharePoint Online implementation)
  • Operational Support that involves data analysis with excel, pivot tables, and trends
  • Cloud technologies
  • Automation (PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
     

Learning Outcomes
The successful candidate can expect to gain experience in the following areas:

  • Experience with ITIL concepts like Incident, Problem, and Change Management
  • Use of Microsoft 365 and Azure Administration Portals
  • Hands-on experience with wireless access points, and switches
  • Exposure to Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
  • Administration & Operations experience with Microsoft applications like Endpoint Manager, Autotune, Defender ATP, Always on VPN, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint Online
  • Internal and external client relations, 
  • Time Management, 
  • Working with a team of professionals
  • Project Lifecycle
Qualifications

This opportunity is available to 3rd or 4th year Computer Science, and Software/Computer Engineering students and graduate level students studying Computer Science/engineering or related fields. You will bring your enthusiasm to contribute, willingness to learn new skills and tools, strong sense of ownership, and your disciplined approach to solving and managing problems.

Knowledge and/or experience in the following areas would be an asset:

  • Programming languages
  • Windows 10/11 OS
  • Linux OS
  • Comfortable with managing the settings of a laptop
  • Understanding how to patch OS and update device drivers
  • Building and executing test scripts
  • Use of Service Desk software
  • Writing & reviewing technical documentation
