Collection/Distribution Labourer

Position Overview:

The City of Prince Albert invites applications for up to two (2) permanent Fulltime positions of Collection/Distribution Labourer (Water & Sewer) in the Public Works Department. 

The Collection Distribution Labourer, under the direction of the Water and Sewer Manager, is responsible for performing work involving the construction, maintenance and repair operations related to the wastewater collection and water distribution systems.

Required Qualifications:


•Entry Level - Grade 12, Driver's License

  • 3A Driver's License (the sucessful applicant will have 2 months to aquire)

Level I – Within the first 6 months must write and pass Class I Certification in Water Distribution Exam, Equipment Operator certification, Fireman's Certification and Hoisting and Rigging Certification.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:


• Performs a variety of labouring tasks in Collection/Distribution construction, maintenance and repair operations.

• Uses equipment and material for thawing and freezing distribution systems.

• Uses equipment and material in flushing and cleaning collection systems.

• Assist in street isolation during construction and maintenance operations.

• Performs distribution system flushing operations.

• Assist in isolation and repair of water main breaks.

• Maintain log of service and maintenance work.

• Assist in the set up of batter boards.

• Follow Acts, Regulations, Bylaws, Agreements, policies and procedures.

• Follow Act, Regulations and policies of Occupational Health & Safety.

• Address and report hazards, ensuring safe conditions for employees and the public.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ability to operate all types of hydrants.

• Ability to deal effectively with the general public and co-workers.

• Ability to work with concrete.

• Knowledge of the principles and standard practices, methods and materials used in Collection/Distribution construction, maintenance and repair operations.

• Basic knowledge in the use of hand tools, equipment and material applicable to Collection/Distribution operation.

• Persons in this classification will be required to work in a dirty and hazardous environment.

• Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions with a minimum of supervision.

• General knowledge of underground utilities within the City of Prince Albert.

• Knowledge of current OH&S standards and regulations.

• Good organizational skills.

• Must be willing to take applicable safety and job related training programs, courses and medical shots.
