SUMMARY:
As a member of Pelican High Peak Family Healing Lodge, the Family Wellness Worker works within a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to coordinating integrated services to families participating in the residential treatment program. The Family Wellness Worker is responsible for supporting comprehensive mental health and addictions counselling and suicide prevention services to families in attendance at the healing lodge. The mental health and addiction counselling services are implemented using a holistic approach and are consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Ka-Na-Chi-Hih. As a member of the Pelican High Peak, the Family Wellness Worker is responsible for providing support and supervision during programming, recreational and cultural activities. The Family Wellness Worker helps to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that addresses the needs of the family. The Family Worker helps to manage inappropriate and or destructive behaviour and to assist youth and adults to negotiate positive choices and empowerment through positive role modelling.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide assessments, individual counselling and treatment plans for the family
- Complete screening and risk assessment for suicide and mental status
- Completion of all required documentation; case filing, incident reporting, operational documentation, and individualized treatment plans.
- Working in a case management setting with other service providers, family and community members in the development of the treatment and discharge planning
- Appropriately use clinical, diagnostic and treatment planning terminology with clients
- Effective, proper, and safe medication administration to families
- Ensure daily resident schedules and routines are followed by families
- Ensure that goals and objectives from Individualized treatment plans are completed
- Guide families with conflict resolution skills and problem-solving strategies
- Communicate effectively in a cross-cultural setting
- Draft written documents, which are clear, concise and easy to understand by both professionals and non-professionals
- Helping to maintain a clean and safe environment
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
- Any additional duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Family Wellness Worker is supervised by and accountable to the Treatment Services Manager, with ultimate accountability to the Director of Treatment Services for overall performance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A sound knowledge of how mental health issues contribute to and affect the life of Indigenous people
- A sound knowledge of indigenous culture, traditions, and knowledge and how it connects to holistic family healing.
- Working knowledge of therapeutic treatment options
- Knowledge of child and adolescent developmental, psychological, social, cognitive development
- Knowledge of family dynamics, healthy relationships, and effective parenting skills.
- Knowledge of the current trends and ability to apply best practices with clients for addressing risk factors
- Knowledge of family systems and harm reduction models.
- Thorough knowledge of community resources and social services.
- Technological skills with Windows and Microsoft suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Understanding of mental health, addictions, and trauma.
- Technological skills with Windows, Microsoft suite (including Outlook email and calendar, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), as well as cloud-based software including OneDrive and SharePoint
- Valid driver's license and ability provide a clean driver's abstract.
- Ability to provide clear criminal records check with Vulnerable Sectors Screen upon hire.
- Fluency in an Anishinaabe dialect (Cree, Ojibway or Oji-Cree) is preferred
Education
A degree /diploma or certification from a recognized university or college in addictions, social work, or related field; or equivalent training.
Experience
- 2 years of practical experience in the social services, indigenous studies, or related fields.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrate excellent organizational skills
- Experience in working with Indigenous Youth, Adults and/or Families.
