Reporting to the Manager of Stations & Grid Intelligence, this position has overall responsibility for the administration and management of the Stations & Grid Intelligence work program and field staff. The role is responsible for planning, organizing, and scheduling the activities of personnel, equipment, and contractors engaged in the construction, operation, and maintenance of stations, communication systems, and programmable distribution devices. This includes ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with applicable standards and procedures. The position also supports asset management objectives by ensuring maintenance activities are executed in alignment with approved programs and that asset condition information is accurately captured, updated, reviewed, analyzed, and reported to support lifecycle planning and investment decisions.

The incumbent will coordinate and plan activities and programs with other departments such as Lines, Metering, Control Room and external parties such as Hydro One and the IESO.

Major (Primary) Responsibilities:

Provision of Expert Advice: Counsel and confer with the Manager of Stations & Grid Intelligence on the day-to-day activities to ensure an awareness of unusual items which could have a significant effect on the operation of the department.

Budgets: Prepare and monitor the departmental operating and capital budgets and ensure that the department operates within the approved budget. Monitor and control expenditures to accomplish the work in the budgets within the funding allowed. Approve the purchase of products and services.

Management: Provide direction, coaching and mentoring for direct reports while maintaining a team environment. Coach and direct staff on the interpretation and application of programs, rules, concepts, and capital and maintenance programs. Manage resources and performance through sound leadership and the development of the team. Prepare and deliver performance reviews for direct reports. Participate and recommend candidates in the recruitment and selection process.

Asset Management and Record Keeping: Administer the collection, validation, and storage of inspection, testing, and certification records. Ensure asset condition, maintenance, and performance information is accurately captured and updated in corporate asset management systems to support lifecycle management, regulatory compliance, and reporting requirements. Provide record keeping including monthly reports, test records, inspections, and other documentation as required. Perform preliminary analysis of inspection and test data and suggest appropriate corrective actions.

Compliance & Training: Ensure and promote that employees and supervisors are knowledgeable and compliant with all Corporation rules, policies and procedures, work protection code, ESA regulations, OEB requirements, E&USR Safety rules and Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations, through monitoring of staff activities.

Planning: Responsible for planning, organizing, scheduling, coordinating and the production and overall quality and cost of all work under his/her jurisdiction. Responsible for ensuring the approval and accuracy of time sheets for those under his/her jurisdiction. Participate in the planning process and review changes and additions to the stations, communication and protection systems to ensure that modifications can be carried out in a safe and efficient manner. Responsible for ensuring that personnel in the department perform job planning in accordance with corporate standards. Assist Supervisors with job planning, scheduling and organizing complex projects.

On-Call Duties: Be available for on-call duties as required and call-in during emergencies to coordinate and supervise the efficient use of staffing and equipment to repair the stations, programmable distribution devices and provide support to the control and communication systems.

Labour Relations: Manage staff to ensure that the Collective Agreement is administered in a fair and reasonable manner and promotes a positive culture for union/management relations.

Safety: Provide leadership for Occupational Health & Safety activities for the organization to effectively promote a culture of health, safety and loss prevention.

Skills/Abilities:
  • Advanced MS Office and corporate computer skills including GIS, JD Edwards and Insight Console

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills to provide clear direction on work priorities and expectations, and interact with multiple stakeholders in a professional manner

  • Advanced ability to write reports and business correspondence, and to effectively present information and respond to questions from multiple stakeholders
  • Advanced ability to analyze problems, investigate and implement solutions and resolve conflict
  • Advanced ability to plan, execute, administer capital and/or operational projects and mitigate associated risk
  • Advanced project management, time management and organizational skills
  • Advanced ability to apply critical thinking skills, troubleshoot technical challenges, collect & analyze data and draw valid conclusions
  • Advanced ability to research, recommend and implement changes to improve operational effectiveness and strive for continuous improvement
  • Ability to foster strong business relationships with internal staff, customers, developers, authorities, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to provide strong leadership, mentorship and support to ensure the delivery of organizational goals and business plans
  • Requires a high degree of discretion and resourcefulness. Must be approachable and operate in a professional manner.
Knowledge/Education:
  • Substation Electrician Certificate from MEARIE (or equivalent) and HONI P&C Control Courses (or equivalent)
  • Master Electrician Licence would be an asset
  • Journeyperson Electrician holding a certificate of qualification issued by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (Ontario Trade Code 309A or 309C) or any approved equivalent would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Station operation and maintenance
  • Knowledge of Programmable Distribution Devices
  • Knowledge of asset management principles and practices, including lifecycle planning, condition-based maintenance, and alignment with corporate asset management frameworks
  • Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
  • Basic knowledge of the contents and administration of the collective agreement, as well as Employment Standards Act
  • Valid Class "D" with Z endorsement minimum, "A" or A Restricted" driver's licence with Z endorsement preferred
Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years' experience working in an electricity distribution company, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 – 5 years' experience in a supervisory role

Salary Range: $125,000 to $156,000 annually
