How will you contribute?
Join Senator René Cormier, Independent Senator from New Brunswick, in advancing national policies in arts and culture, official languages, and human rights. A recognized cultural leader and advocate for linguistic and 2ELGBTQIA+ rights, Senator Cormier brings decades of experience in the arts, Francophone affairs, and community development to his work in the Senate.
Senator Cormier plays a key role in promoting Canada's linguistic duality, cultural vitality, and social inclusion. He has chaired the Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages, participated in key committees on social affairs, transport, and communications, and contributed significantly to strengthening Canada's presence in international parliamentary networks.
This position offers an opportunity to support his influential work through research, policy analysis, and strategic communications. You will help shape the Senator's positions on legislation, engage with stakeholders, and contribute to his continued impact in national discussions on culture, language, and equality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and analysis on policies related to arts, culture, official languages, and human rights;
- Draft speeches, briefing notes, reports, and statements on key issues;
- Monitor Senate activities and identify opportunities for engagement, advising on potential interventions or initiatives;
- Provide evidence-based advice to support legislative, policy, and committee priorities;
- Represent the Senator at meetings and events, building relationships with key stakeholders in Canada and internationally;
- Contribute to strategic planning and coordination of the Senator's parliamentary and public activities, offering guidance as needed to advance his priorities;
- In collaboration with other staff members, support various communications tasks and the organization of events led by the office.

The general public, to staff one (1) indeterminate full-time position in the Office of the Honourable Senator René Cormier.

Prerequisites
- University degree in public policy, political science, arts administration, communications, or a related field; or a combination of relevant education, training, and experience;
- In-depth knowledge of the Canadian arts and cultural ecosystem, particularly within official language minority communities (OLMCs);
- Extensive and recent experience conducting research, analysis, and synthesis of complex information to formulate strong recommendations;
- Extensive and recent experience drafting documents such as briefing notes, reports, speeches, and statements;
- Experience providing strategic advice to senior officials or decision-makers on sensitive or politically complex issues;
- Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with senior officials, parliamentarians, or cultural and community leaders;
- Advanced proficiency with the MS Office suite;
- Strong strategic and organizational ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and diplomatically in both official languages;
- Good knowledge of the Senate of Canada, its committees, and the legislative process;
- Good understanding of political, social, economic, and cultural issues in New Brunswick and Canada;
- Proficiency in both French and English is essential, both written and spoken.
