Job Summary

Sun Glow is seeking a Junior Product Design Engineer to support our Research & Development department in designing, testing, and improving innovative window covering products. Reporting to the Product Design Engineer, this entry-level role is ideal for recent mechanical engineering graduates looking to gain hands-on experience, develop technical skills, and contribute to real product development initiatives.

The successful candidate will assist with CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, documentation, and cross-functional support while receiving structured training and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop 2D and 3D CAD models, drawings, and design concepts for review.
  • Prepare detailed drawings to ensure performance, manufacturability, and quality.
  • Assist in building and testing prototypes using shop tools and engineering methods.
  • Participate in Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) projects and documentation.
  • Collect test data, prepare engineering reports, and communicate results to the design team.
  • Contribute to design reviews and ensure compliance with internal guidelines and engineering standards.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical engineering files.
  • Support cross-departmental teams including production, quality, and customer support.
  • Perform additional tasks and project-based duties assigned by the Product Design Engineer.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Recent graduate in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Strong foundation in CAD software; experience with Autodesk AutoCAD or Inventor is an asset.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with prototyping techniques (3D printing, machining, shop tools) is an asset.
  • Ability to read, create, and interpret technical drawings.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small engineering team.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Training & Career Development

Sun Glow provides structured training and mentorship, including:

  • Direct mentorship from the Product Design Engineer
  • Training in Autodesk AutoCAD, Inventor, and in-house design workflows
  • Hands-on prototype fabrication, testing, and engineering shop equipment training
  • Exposure to the full product lifecycle: concept, design, testing, manufacturing, and support
  • Participation in SR&ED projects
  • Opportunities to contribute to technical improvements and product innovation

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
