Position Summary:
The Site Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Transfer Station while also operating heavy equipment approximately 50% of the time. This is a hands-on leadership role that ensures safety, efficiency, and compliance while managing a team of site staff. The Supervisor may also be required to assist at other nearby sites, cover the scale house as needed, and be available for rotating weekends and on-call duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Supervision:
- Supervise daily transfer station operations including waste intake, processing, and site logistics
- Manage and schedule a team of site employees
- Ensure compliance with operational procedures and health & safety standards
- Provide support to the scale house during breaks, absences, or emergencies to ensure seamless operation
- Assist with shift planning and team coordination
Heavy Equipment Operation (Approx. 50%):
- Operate heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, and bobcats
- Perform daily inspections and basic preventive maintenance
- Assist with site clean-up, material handling, and other tasks requiring equipment use
Compliance & Safety:
- Enforce company safety standards and ensure staff compliance with applicable legislation
- Handle regulated materials (e.g., asbestos) safely and in accordance with policy
- Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site inspections
Quality Control:
- Monitor incoming materials for contamination
- Ensure proper sorting and handling of construction and demolition waste, mixed waste, and other materials
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience in waste, construction, or a similar operational environment
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment
- Valid G-class driver's license and a clean driver's abstract
- Knowledge of TRUX or similar scale software is an asset
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, data entry, scale operation software)
- Knowledge of environmental and health & safety regulations
Additional Requirements:
- Must be available for rotating weekends and occasional after-hours on-call support
- Support other nearby sites as needed (e.g., Millwick, Medulla)
