The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Policy and Heritage, this role is responsible for providing assistance and support to policy planning staff. You will support land use policy projects, research initiatives and planning documentation. You will be responsible for assisting with official plan and zoning by-law work, responding to inquiries and contributing to policy planning projects and special assignments.

As the Student, Policy Planning, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Provide support on land use policy projects and related research initiatives
  • Assist Planners with official plan amendments, zoning by-law reviews, land use studies and secondary plan reviews
  • Prepare planning-related documents including memos, tables, manuals and procedures
  • Respond to customer service inquiries at the counter and by telephone, as required
  • Support meeting coordination, internal inquiries and special projects as assigned 

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student working towards a degree or diploma in Urban or Rural Planning, Geography or a closely related field, or equivalent, and are returning to school in Fall of 2026.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated strong writing, analytical and organizational skills. We are seeking an individual with superior communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, and excellent attention to detail.

The successful candidate for Student, Policy Planning will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

Satisfactory proof of schooling or return to school, may be requested.
