Position Overview

EPIC is building an operator talent pool of Building Operators and Maintenance Personnel in the Edmonton area for current and upcoming temporary/contract placements, with the potential for long-term or full-time employment depending on performance and fit.

These opportunities typically occur when a client requires:

• Operational coverage while a team member is away, or
• Immediate support while they recruit for an open role.

Assignments may range from short-term coverage to longer-term placements, depending on client needs. In some cases, a client may decide to offer permanent employment after a successful trial period and strong fit.

Who This Is For

This role is a strong fit for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and take pride in keeping buildings running smoothly, including:

• Junior or intermediate Building Operators
• Power Engineering students or recent graduates building experience and hours
• Operators between roles seeking dependable contract work
• Experienced operators open to temporary or contract-based placements

Responsibilities (includes but not limited to)

• Perform daily building operational rounds, inspections, and basic monitoring
• Respond to tenant requests and work orders in a professional and respectful manner
• Complete routine maintenance tasks and basic repairs
• Cleaning and general housekeeping in mechanical areas (as required)
• Change HVAC filters, belts, and perform basic RTU/AHU checks (site dependent)
• Lubrication tasks including greasing pumps, motors, bearings, and other components per maintenance schedules
• Assist with minor mechanical work (tightening fasteners, replacing basic parts, checking leaks, etc.)
• Support contractor access and coordinate service calls when required
• Maintain logs, reports, and documentation (paper or electronic)
• Use CMMS systems for work orders and inventory tracking (where applicable)
• Follow site safety procedures and support compliance expectations — safety always comes first.

Requirements

• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in English (verbal and written)
• Building operations experience and/or relevant technical education
• Hands-on individual who is comfortable using tools and working with their hands
• Professional, dependable, and safety-focused approach
• Willingness to accept temporary/contract assignments and represent EPIC onsite
• Represent EPIC positively, ensuring high-quality and professional service that upholds our reputation.

Assets (not required for all placements):

• Power Engineering certification (4th or 5th Class)
• WHMIS and other safety certifications
• Commercial or institutional building experience
• Familiarity with CMMS platforms
• Mechanical aptitude (pumps, motors, filters, basic HVAC components)
• Own hand tools
• Ability to obtain a Police Information Check (PIC) if required

(EPIC will cover the cost if we move forward with an applicant)

Compensation & Process

• Hourly compensation is negotiated prior to placement based on experience and assignment requirements
• Screening interviews are completed by EPIC, and some placements may also involve a short client interview
• We aim to keep the process straightforward, respectful, and transparent
