Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Part-Time Bookkeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting skills, proficiency with various accounting software, and a solid understanding of financial concepts. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial health of our organization while working flexible hours. Candidates should be comfortable handling multiple accounting functions and maintaining accurate financial records in compliance with GAAP standards.

Duties

  • Manage and maintain accurate financial records using accounting software "Sage"
  • Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and account reconciliation
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure data accuracy
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions efficiently
  • Prepare financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and other relevant documentation
  • Assist with payroll processing and tax-related tasks, if needed
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and governmental accounting standards
  • Support budgeting activities and provide insights for financial planning
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all bookkeeping activities for audit purposes

Key Responsibilities

  • Full-Cycle Bookkeeping: Maintain complete sets of books, including the general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Fund Accounting: Track restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure grant and donor money is used according to specific mandates.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to CRA guidelines for charitable organizations, including filing GST/HST returns and issuing charitable donation receipts.
  • Reconciliations: Perform regular bank, credit card, and petty cash reconciliations.
  • Audit Support: Prepare documentation and assist with annual year-end audits.
  • Disability Support Oversight: Flag discrepancies in services charged against contracts and ensure financial documentation matches service delivery requirements.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Completion of a college program in accounting or bookkeeping, or a recognized professional accounting program (e.g., first level of CPA or Canadian Bookkeeping Certification).
  • Experience: Minimum 1–3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Sage (formerly Simply Accounting), plus advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Saskatchewan-specific regulations (e.g., WCB) and CRA charitable reporting.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate financial terms clearly to non-financial staff and maintain professionalism when interacting with co-workers and vendors.
  • Special Requirements: Must be bondable and able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with fund accounting and grant tracking (e.g., provincial funding for disability services).
  • Completion of the Nonprofit Sector Leadership and Innovation Certificate from the University of Regina.
  • Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) designation.
  • Strong communication skills to prepare clear financial reports and summaries.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a part-time capacity.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: From $27.33 per hour
