PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the leader overseeing key railway infrastructure, you will manage bridge inspections, maintenance, and construction planning across the assigned corridor, ensuring structural safety and regulatory compliance. Your effective leadership will drive operational efficiency and uphold strict adherence to all standards, policies, and operating rules. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Supervise unionized team members according to collective agreement guidelines, providing support in the resolution of corrective actions, disputes, and grievances
  • Perform detailed inspections of bridges, culverts, and retaining walls to verify structural soundness and ensure conformance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) standards and internal regulations
  • Take an active role in designing and executing long-term construction and maintenance programs for assigned areas
  • Manage engineering materials and inventory processes, guaranteeing precise documentation of all inspections
  • Maintain strict adherence to collective bargaining agreements throughout all phases of project execution
  • Oversee and guide staff to uphold safety standards and optimize workflow effectiveness
  • Monitor and enforce budget compliance for construction and maintenance activities
  • Coordinate emergency service efforts, ensuring rapid, safe resolution of incidents; lead investigations and corrective actions to address safety and service concerns
  • Regularly assess and supervise corrective measures for track structure work, promoting a culture of safety and ensuring adherence to all railway regulations, company policies, and labor agreements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Valid driver's license
  • 5 years of demonstrated expertise in track and structural work, with a strong preference for prior experience within the railroad industry
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience supervising track engineering crews, including leading teams focused on structural projects
  • In-depth knowledge of track maintenance, track renewal, structural repairs, and railway track safety procedures
  • Effective communication skills, written/oral and understanding of computer systems
  • Available to participate in a rotating on-call schedule, providing emergency response support as needed (typically every other week) to ensure continuous 24/7 operations

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
