Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Community Programs, the Sexual Assault Counsellor will provide Support and intervention to women (15 years and older) who have experienced sexual violence in London and Middlesex County. The Sexual Assault Counsellor will also provide support to families, partners and friends. Maintain all client records in a confidential and effective manner while providing clinical short- term individual counselling as well as deliver Group counselling, advocacy and outreach services.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Social Work with a counselling focus preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
  • Minimum of 2 years experience providing trauma and violence informed specific psychotherapy, crisis intervention, support, information and referral to survivors of sexual violence
  • A strong understanding of sexual violence from a feminist, anti-racist, anti- oppression perspective
  • Strong group work and individual counselling skills
  • Specialized training in sexual violence counselling, including childhood sexual abuse issues
  • Specialized knowledge of mental health and substance abuse issues
  • An understanding of and commitment to working within a Harm Reduction model
  • Experience with suicide and self-harm risk assessments and safety planning
  • Experience and comfort working with vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with strong computer competency
  • A proven client-centered approach that addresses the holistic needs of survivors through relational practice
  • Cross cultural perspective and awareness; second language is an asset
  • Well-developed organizational skills with an ability to meet timelines
  • Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills
  • A valid driver's license and regular access to the use of a vehicle is an asset
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector background check

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual short-term counselling and advocacy for clients who have experienced sexual violence. (in person, phone, video conferencing)
  • Planning, developing, co-facilitating and debriefing open and/or closed support groups or workshops for clients
  • Provide weekly intake sessions and assessment interviews with prospective clients
  • Provide emergency counselling for clients as needed
  • Participate in clinical supervision as required – individual and group
  • Acting as an advocate and resource person for the clients and agency on issues of sexual violence
  • Maintain appropriate client records and database (i.e. database case notes, therapeutic reports, etc.)
  • Promote and maintain a relational and supportive association among clients, staff and volunteers
  • Must be able to and comfortable working with vulnerable population
  • Maintain current knowledge of counselling related regulatory requirements and local housing resources
  • Participate in orientation/training of new staff, students, and volunteers
  • Attend regular staff meetings, team meetings, and training sessions as appropriate and/or required
  • Participate on agency committees as appropriate and/or required
  • Maintain a current awareness of gender-based violence, issues related to women/survivors, and data specific to Anova
  • Model Respect at Work principles and skills while carrying out daily activities
  • Other duties as assigned
