About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Data Scientist to join our Seller Experience team at eBay. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, training, and maintaining machine learning models that address complex challenges within the ecommerce environment. Your work will directly influence the core functionalities of our selling tools, enhancing the user experience for over 25 million sellers across 22 countries. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Data, and Infrastructure to develop models that improve seller onboarding, inventory management, listing optimization, and overall platform growth. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale data pipelines, implement advanced NLP and time-series analytics, and contribute to the technological backbone supporting eBay's global marketplace.
Qualifications
- MS or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field
- 8+ years of relevant industry experience in data science or machine learning
- Strong foundation in mathematical, statistical, and ML principles
- Proficiency in building and deploying production-level machine learning models
- Experience with NLP analysis on large-scale structured and unstructured datasets
- Hands-on experience with big data processing frameworks such as Spark or Hadoop
- Knowledge of modern ML frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
- Excellent programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or Scala
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and actionable insights
- Experience with unsupervised learning models and time-series data analytics
- Strong communication skills to present technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Experience in large system design and distributed computing challenges is a plus
- Research experience in ecommerce or supply/demand analysis is desirable
Responsibilities
- Design and develop similarity models using text and feature analysis for large datasets
- Implement item classification models based on textual information combined with numerical metrics
- Perform text feature extraction to enhance model accuracy and robustness
- Develop adaptive algorithms for outlier detection and noise filtering in data pipelines
- Conduct time-series analytics to identify seasonality patterns and trends
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into machine learning solutions
- Maintain and optimize existing ML models to ensure high performance and accuracy
- Integrate machine learning models into scalable data processing pipelines
- Present findings and model architectures to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in machine learning and data science methodologies
